A whole decade ago, a small group of highly-motivated penguins ventured off of the comfortable Battlements of 2Fort and into the wider world of Team Fortress 2 to create a pub community in their vision. Thus, The Corner Pub was born for penguins from all reaches of the Internet to mingle and shoot each other in the face. Though penguins are flightless birds, the founding members of TCPub gave wings to the original All-Around server, and the community soared to great heights. In its heyday, The Corner Pub servers were brimming with faces, both familiar and new, with alltalk banter making children cry and grown folks feel vindicated. Before all of this Matchmaking nonsense, it was not an uncommon complaint that there weren't enough server slots like the other 32-player poopfest servers or that class limits meant that 5 Engineers could not egregiously defend Badwater last together. However, that was part of the beauty of TCPub: it was made in the best interest of the community we wanted to see playing, not simply to be as popular as possible (though, donations were greatly appreciated by dharma_bum). The Corner Pub was designed to be exactly what the name implied. It was just a place where you could come to after a long day dealing with life's woes and relax with your friends because everyone knew your name.

After 10 years, it's probably safe to say that most have gone in different directions both in life and online. Think of it this way: a young penguin who may have hung around at the crest of their adolescence at 13 years of age would now be 23 years old. That's old enough to have graduated college, be a working member of society with bachelor degree-level qualifications, be a parent, homeowner, AND do their own taxes. Feel old yet? Well if you are reading this, that means you are living in the past and have probably achieved none of those milestones since you spend your free time on the Internet keeping up with obscure Steam groups haha. Jokes aside, it warms what little of a soul I have to know that some people here are still in contact with one another and that bonds that were created in the yearling days of the community have stood the test of time.

From the first days of TCPub to its eventual winding down, unforgettable memories were made. What's more, irreplaceable friendships were formed, and for many, The Corner Pub became a second home. Though the TF2 server has been long out of commission, the spirit of TCPub lives on both in our hearts and via the black magic of the Internet (remember: once it's on the Internet, it lives forever). What does the future hold for The Corner Pub? At this point, nothing definitive. But who knows? Maybe a certain Scout-penguin hybrid may be waiting to be met on the horizon.

Valve has officially announced that TF2 and CS:GO are safe for human interaction. The previous security concern was in regards to a past builds of the games, so as long as your TF2 and CS:GO files are updated, you should be good to go. As mentioned before, be on the lookout for a big announcement from our community!

Good morning/afternoon/evening Penguins,

It has been brought to my attention that the security of TF2 and CS:GO servers has been compromised due to leak of the source code that can lead to malicious exploits. The full details are not immediately available, and Valve has not made any official statement, but reliable sources who are involved in Source Engine development warn of potential remote code execution bugs that pose a serious security risk to players. It seems as thought this would occur when users are connected to online servers and not while on LAN servers. However, as an extra precaution, we are advising that you do not launch either TF2 or CS:GO until this issue has been addressed.

I know this news comes at the least opportune time, especially considering that a good number of Penguins may be playing TF2 or CS:GO to get through a period of sheltering in place or self-isolation, but do not fear. We are in the middle of planning a big update for the community that will hopefully occur once the issue with TF2 settles. You can still keep in touch and play other games with fellow TCPub members. We even have a Discord to join to rekindle old flames with TCPub members that you may not have heard from in years or meet new faces to enjoy gaming and memeing with! In the true spirit of The Corner Pub fashion, we have been inactive on our own server as of late. Tonight we are going to attempt to change that and bring joy to all of our community members again. If this event is popular enough we could install it as a weekly event to shake up the monotony of the same old TF2 maps that you play over and over again.

This custom map night event aims to bring some new maps to our server that we hope everyone will appreciate. For tonight's event, we are removing the standard playlist that we currently have on our All Around server and replacing it with a hand-picked selection of maps by one of our server admins and a moderator. What these maps are bringing to the server are different experiences, some things you may have seen before, some you may not have.

The selection of maps for tonight's event did not favor too heavily one game type or another. We are adding a total of 7 different maps. There will be 2 CP style maps, 1 CTF style map, 2 KoTH style maps, and finally 2 Payload style maps.

The 2 CP style maps are cp_furnace_rc and cp_tidal_v4.
Furnace is an attack/defense map that is modeled after gravel pit and feels very similar.
Tidal is a regular 5CP map that was done with beautiful aesthetics and a wonderful rooftop feel to it.

The 1 CTF style map is ctf_haarp.
Haarp is not like your normal ctf maps. This one is more styled after a CP map but still have you interacting with an additional element in order to proceed. In this case, the additional element is the intelligence that you have to use as a capture device. Confusing? Certainly sounds it, but overall a very simple concept to grab once you start playing it.

The 2 KoTH style maps are koth_missilebase_b5 and koth_moonshine_rc.
Missilebase is a fairly normal KoTH map with 3 stories for the central control point, but only one that allows you to capture the point.
Moonshine is an old TCPub favorite. This swamp style map is a normal KoTH map, but instead of having the control point in the middle of the map, it is off center and moved to one edge. This does not give either team an advantage, just additional flank routes to use to your advantage.

The 2 Payload style maps are pl_abandoned_upward_finalfix and pl_buzznest_b2.
Abandoned Upward is essentially the same exact map as the normal Upward, just made much prettier and a vision of what it may look like if that island was abandoned for quite some time.
Buzznest is a fairly long payload map, but with a multitude of different flanks and access points.

Please give us feedback on this event and the different maps that you played. Tell us which ones you enjoyed, which ones you disliked, even give us some suggestions for future custom map event.
