Other Side of the Coin
November 1857, Bern
The success of the Swiss economy was enabled through privatisation and the movement towards a national free market. Earlier, this was deemed by ourselves to lead to nothing but prospering finances for everyone, but we'd like to expand that claim. Endeavours of the Swiss Parliament strive towards a competetive market. It is true, that this initially had a large positive impact on the economy of Switzerland. Despite that, there is a possibility of rising problems. Already, the social class difference between the factory workers and farmers over the capitalists that distribute their goods is rising. As with a competetive market, companies tend to take risks more or play each other out. We could see this happening with sausage factories in Zürich, where a monopole has developed from the different industrial sector. The amount of unemployment is slowly growing as the quality of work decreases, with many workers not being able to pay their rents anymore and having to move elsewhere or depend on the social wellfare system, which is still quite poor in the young federal state. The Swiss Workers' Party use this as an advantage and argue that this problem could be solved with a policy of syndicalism[en.wikipedia.org] in the country. Critics from the liberal and right corner of the Parliament disagree though and say that the problems of Swiss capitalism are only short term. Meanwhile, a German chemist called Hugo Schiff[en.wikipedia.org], which moved to Switzerland a few months ago due to what he calls 'political turmoil' in the North German Confederation, has become the chairman of the Swiss Workers' Party and with controversial campaigns raised the amount of their members to over 1000 in Aargau and some hundreds in other cantons, where they've formed new sections of their movement. This has made the local governmentd more considerate of the situation and together they enacted a so called 'cantonal education project'. They didn't want to explain to us, what this means for the population exactly, but mentioned that it would mend the inhabitants together. Attachement: Flag of the Swiss Workers' Party[i.redd.it]
