The game won't launch on Macbook pro with MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3. Can someone please help?

My X360 controller works fine for other games that have gamepad support. Controller is plugged in, I've reinstalled the game (deleted the game folder in the Steam directory), restarted the game, even restarted Steam, it's still not responding for this game. When I open up the settings menu, all I see is the character on screen without any settings or options.
