Trying to form a build to tackle damageless boss runs, having a buffer would be a huge help

Does the 3 "Defeat Boss without taking damage" mean we have to kill them without taking damage from them, or any damage in the entire run? I'm pretty sure I defeated 2 of them without taking damage from them but it did not unlock. I'll delete my save and start from scratch to also unlock the 4 "Finish path without permanent upgrades" and see if unlocks it. edit: the path one unlocked. I'll try the boss ones on the new save later....
