Valve missed their chance with the new update for HL2 to make it more accessible to the modern audience which is a bit disappointing because representation definitely matters. Making Gordon Freeman gay would potentially add more layers to the character's relationships (if the game explored that dimension) or give fans a way to connect with Gordon on a deeper, personal level.
