Age of Mythology is, no pun intended I swear, one of those mythological games from my childhood. That game a friend owned and showed you, and you thought it was really cool but you didn't own it yourself so you pestered your parent to get you it. Then you got it, and then you realized "oh wait, I suck at RTS games" and got brutally murdered by the second easiest difficulty because you didn't know how to properly manage villagers.

Even when playing the original remastered steam release of the game, I sucked at it, and even now I'm still garbage at RTS games, but Age of Mythology: Retold did something I didn't think was possible in a game like this.

They idiot-proofed it.

Easy from the OG is now "hard" I think, and there's 3 difficulties under that so you can actually play the game without the enemy either never touching you at all, or seizing your entire town within the first 8 minutes and killing everyone. They also added a little flag to indicate where your idle villagers are so you can quickly assign them to something else when they finish a task, or set them to automatically harvest materials (though they get bored easily and still need maintenance to ensure they don't go collecting deer meat from 20 miles away. But it's still a very welcome addition).

On top of all this, the games core features are all still intact with no compromises. If you want the classic difficulty, it's still there, there's just options for rookies like me. There's a bunch of rebalences here and there to make more options viable, Wonders were reworked since nobody ever used them to now take you to Age 5 where you basically gain infinite god powers, and on top of all that, cheat codes still work! You can STILL chant "O CANADA" in the chat and get the Laser Bear in all it's HD, monkey flinging glory! They even added new ones like WHAT!? That's insane!

This is the kind of game Warcraft 3: Reforged wishes it was. An actual remaster that not only gives us the same game we loved from years ago in a more easily accessed form, but adds new things and makes it easier to play for those who are interested, but eager to learn, or just really want to summon 25 Minotaurs to raze a city.

It's just... It's really everything I wished for. I'm so happy to have this. ;-;

Yes, highly recommend if you like these RTS games...has overtaken Age of Empires for me. If you like gods, powers, hammers, smashes, meteors, earthquakes, lightning, locusts, fire, wolves, lions, tigers, bears, oh my...then you'll love this $shizz...Chinese is next civ? Yay! Dim Sum for everyone! 11/10.
