Why Early Access?

“This is a massive project I've been working on since 2015 that relies heavily on players sharing Workshop content. I'm a one-man team so I need fans involved as much as possible during development, for feedback on the tools and help playtesting.”

“Hopefully not more than 2 years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

  • Many more characters (I already have several other characters playable in the fangame version of this project, they just need to be converted to the Steam Edition).
  • In-game Workshop browser.
  • A much better level editor with many different enemy types.
  • CPU-controlled players
  • More abilities & items for each character.
  • More modes and options.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Very early. The current demo only has 1 playable character and 2 example levels and 1 enemy type.”

“I currently don't have any plans to change the price.”

About This Game

  • Retro characters faithfully reimagined - Each inspired by a classic game from the 80's or 90's. Unique to this game is how different each character is. This isn't like Smash Bros where they all have fighting game moves and share the same core controls. Instead, I've meticulously kept most of them generally accurate to their source games in terms of their controls, physics, health systems, items, ammo limits, HUDs, and inventories (so some have a run button, some have 8-way aiming, some lose their powerup when hit, etc.). However, they're not total clones; they each have improvements & something new that fits their playstyle, with some having major redesigns & new movesets to make them suitable for a platformer.

  • In-game editor & Workshop support - Import your own graphics, music and sound effects. Create levels, tilesets, and character skins. Share it all via Steam Workshop.

  • Adventure Mode - Currently there's only 1 example adventure (side-scrolling) level by default. 2-4 player co-op is supported.

  • Battle Mode - One-life rounds with a focus on items, which respawn in the same spots like an arena shooter.

  • Character-specific item system - Each character gets their own items/upgrades from the item spawns. In Battle Mode characters can even have different item spawn rates, so weaker characters can trigger item spawns more rapidly, and vice-versa. And some of the more overpowered items won't spawn in the first 2 rounds to limit their use. Also, in 3 or 4 player free-for-all battles there's rubber-banding: the losing player can get more items/better items with the opposite for the winning player.

  • Play online with Steam's Remote Play Together, or locally on the couch with friends.

  • Full gamepad support - I playtest the game with my old SNES controller from the 90's.
