Just wanted to say, first time I used this mod and it's so simple of an idea but a really neat addition to my set up. It's nice finding these super rare usbs and getting something out of them.

if you add anymore laptops i'd suggest a rarer middleman laptop that accepts both floppy and usb

@lomion Im the stupid. In the first release was the description but for some reason I deleted.
Decrypting the drives will randomly gives you exp in almost all perks. Very very randomly.

The idea is that you find some confidential information in each drive that makes you get better in all the fields. (Like find a tutorial for farming, some information about spies that makes you better sneaking ...)

The level earn can be set in sandbox. Default max is 250. But Again all is very randomly.

You can find 10 USB but only 5 of em could work. After that you have to try your luck looking for information inside of them and the chance earning Exp can be from X to Y (set in sandbox)

Sorry for being stupid, but the description is quite unclear. I understand that you can decrypt usb or floppy, but what exactly do you gain from decrypting? Mechanic skill exp or other stills? It's not written in description, only mod name has word "mechanic". But not sure how would one get better with cars by decrypting usb, that's why confusion.

Sorry. My bad. The mod is fully working just I did not immediately understand how to use floppy disks and usb drives.

You need to take the laptop, open the laptop, put it on the table for example, right-click on it and you will be able to read the disk.

I tried to just do everything from the main inventory of the character, but it is not right.
I'm really sorry. Even the video shows that you right-click on the laptop and the option to use a floppy disk appears.

@MoonSpirit76 I have been testing the mod with more than 100+ mods and works fine. (1 week ago) Let me check it again. But I'm pretty sure that the mod should not have any conflict with another mod.

I don't understand how this mod works now.
I can't read floppy disks even though I have all 3 laptops. I can't read the floppy disks on any of them. I also have open usb and Drive cover. But I don't know what to do with Drive cover. I can't read the usb disks on the asus either.

Maybe I have some kind of mod that conflicts? But no errors in logs.

This mod is amazing! And it works on multiplayer!
Laptops are very very rare but if you hit the schools you can find couple of them.
Diskette and USB drives are very rare too and gives me another reason to jump into horde just to find few.

@siege Get a laptop. Then open it and place it over a desk or anywhere you want it. Get close to the laptop and if you have a Disk or Opened USB on your inventory, an option will appear.

Please note that Disks only works on older laptops and USB only works on Asus laptop.

About the drop chance. You can tweak it using Custom loot mod or wait until I add a sandbox option.

I understand that the failure chance on opening and decrypting are fairly high, so collecting lots of usb's and diskettes is required to be successful in gaining some XP, but the drop rate is still way too high they drop on every 5 zombies on average.. and unfortunately the update didnt fix the issue of not having the option to decrypt either usb or diskettes, the only option i get is to open and close the laptops, tried pretty much everything.

Can you please post Mod ID and Workshop ID ?

Great mod idea, but I am not getting the option to decrypt with correct items in main inventory unfortunately, also the drives and diskettes drop rate on zombie's is very heavy.

So I have opened drives on me and an ASUS laptop and I right click on the laptop and click 'decrypt drive' and just get errors. The floppies work fine on the IBM's though.

@novachrome also remember that Asus laptop only accepts Opened USB Drives on your main inventory not bags

(in my mind im seeing metal springs, bits of aluminium, and scrap plastic)

@novachrome Okay. Let me adjust the distro—settings for USB. Meanwhile, you can try more loot settings mod or a private mod to change the loot for your taste. The IDs of each item are in the pinned discussion.

only getting floppies from zombies

im using the normal version not the DKST version

are usb's rarer than floppies because that's all that's spawning for me.

Can you also add CDs? They were a widespread storage device.

And is it possible to use a vanilla computer to read floppy and usb? If yes - I would like to be compatible with another mod - Computer. There vanilla computer can read disks from the mod and use power.

No they don't need power, not at moment at least.

Does the laptop need power or recharging?
