Crash on startup fix (no compatibility mode needed!)
By 󠀡 󠀡󠀡󠀡 󠀡󠀡󠀡
Hi guys I have a fix for the crash on startup issue, without having to resort to compatibility settings or weird changes to your system. I found that the game is looking for a particular DLL file that it is missing so have tracked it down and put in a zip for everyone. Check my guide for the details on how to fix the game =)

The Fix
Hi guys I have a fix for the crash on startup issue, download my zip here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/j6u0kxm0cnmmgfz/ToyboxTurbos_Fix.rar?dl=0

OneDrive mirror if Dropbox not working - https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ato-a1gkiH5U9WCLhxsK6J52cRkK

  • Extract the zip to a folder somewhere, maybe make a new folder on your desktop for instance.
  • Move the 2 DLLs from "Goes in Toybox Turbos root folder next to the game exe" into the game folder. You can get to this by right clicking the game in Steam, click on properties, click the Local Files tab then press Browse Local Files
  • Go into the "Video Settings File" folder and then drag the video_settings.xml file into the little folder called "Goes in this folder" and it should ask if you wish to overwrite, say yes.

Now try and launch the game from Steam. This has fixed the game on my PC and my 2 friends who I just spent a few hours racing with no issues :)

With thanks to Creomortis for suggesting to use Dependency Walker to find out which DLLs are missing and thus causing the game to crash.

Please comment on the guide if this worked or didn't work for you.

If it didn't work you may need to open the folder from the "Video Settings File" then right click on video_settings.xml and select "open with" then "choose a program" then pick Notepad. Look for where it has 1920 and 1080 and change those to your resolution and it should work okay. My file is set to 1920x1080 as most screens these days are that resolution but if you are playing using a laptop or older PC you may need to reduce it.

I love how the company is called 'Codemasters' yet they fucking suck at code.

If you want to add me and try an online game to test it out, i'm happy to give it a shot?

Glad to hear this has fixed a few other peoples issues too. We had a lot of trouble getting this to work originally. Quite a fun game when it's working. Online Multiplayer seems to have been removed from the feature list on the Steam store page, can you still play this online with friends?

Worked immediately. No crash as soon as I did this. And you can then adjust the video settings in game without any worry. Perfect. Thank you random citizen.

Hey, at first it didn't work but after making sure everything was in the right folder, it actually worked, i've had a lot of issues with codemasters games so this helped a lot, thanks (although it still crashes if it's over my monitor's native res in full screen)
