Unlocking Type-Z (skip if you already have Type-Z)
Achievemnt name: Shooting Star
Achievemnt description: Attain the highest ranking in Time Attack mode

Achievemnt requirements: Recieve MASTER++ rank upon completing Time Attack.

Preparation (Get Type-Z):

First, I recommend you unlock the secret ship: Type-Z. This will make the Time Attack stage much easier. To unlock Type-Z, you must collect a total of 3 million :crimzonstar:

An easy way to get your 3 million stars is to go for the 1cc (1-credit-clear) on both boost and original modes (on novice difficulty) before attampting this achievement. You will naturally collect a lot of stars. They are not as hard as they seem and will teach you how to play the game through automatic learning (you will understand enemy movement, bullet patterns, enemy health, etc).
Ranking and bonuses
The highest ranking is MASTER++, and you need a final score of 75mil to get MASTER++

At the end of the Time Attack, you will get some bonuses:

No Lives Lost: 1,000,000

Stage Stars: # of stars x100

Time bonus: time remaining x1000

Break Count Bonus: Break Count x1000

Based on this info, we want to:
- Not die
- Get a lot of stars
- Beat the stage
- Increase the Break Count
Understanding the score multiplier
I'm not going to get technical about this and give out specific/accurate numbers, because I don't need to. All you need to know is that when you kill an enemy, you get points. And there is also a multiplier you can get that will multiply the score you get from killing enemies by that amount.

The way you get the multiplier is simple. You need to kill enemies with your missiles in order to get a multiplier. The more missiles you use to kill enemies, the higher the multiplier will be. You can focus all missiles on a strong enemy and kill it, and get a max multiplier. Or you can focus all missiles on multiple enemies and kill all of them to get a max multiplier.

Fig.1

As you can see from fig. 1, you have the multiplier on the right side, a multiplier counter (in the blue square), and your missile capacity at the bottom.

Fig.2

Comparing fig.1 and fig.2, we can tell that the missile capacity increases during break and double-break mode. Here are the numbers for the missiles and the multipliers:

Normal: 24 missiles
Breaking: 28 missiles
Double-Breaking: 32 missiles

Normal max multiplier: x9.6
Breaking max mulltiplier: x11.4
Double-breacking max multiplier: x12.8

From this data, we can conclude that you want to be at double-break in order to set up the multiplier because we can get x12.8.

The number inside the blue square (Fig.1):

This counter will show when you have a multiplier. The counter will rapidly decay to 0 as time passes and when it reaches 0, your multiplier will reset to x1. You can increase this multiplier by killing enemies and breaking/double-breaking.
General strategy
You want to have the multiplier as high as possible through-out the level for as long as possible. The sooner you double-break the sooner you can get the x12.8 multiplier.

If your multiplier resets, try to get it back to x12.8 as fast as possible. You don't actually need the multiplier to be at 12.8 the whole stage to get +75bill but it's ideal that you aim for this goal.

You want to kill the flying enemies AS FAST as possible. They come in waves, and the next wave comes after your current ends. The wave can end in 2 ways:

1. all enemies are destroyed
2. all enemies leave the screen

You want to kill as many enemies as possible to get a higher score, which means you want to kill the waves as fast as possible. FOCUS THE AIRCRAFTS. The spread damage will naturally kill most of the ground units. You can, however, use the ground enemies to get a x12.8 multiplier.

If using a bomb means staying alive (or maintain the multiplier alive) then USE A BOMB.
Summary / Other tips
To maximize your score, you want to:

- stay alive (don't die)
- get lots of stars
- break/double-break as much as possible
- kill the aircraft waves as fast as possible
- have your multiplier at x12.8 for as much of the level as possible
- Kill the boss while you have a x12.8 multiplier (or deacently high). You can use the small planes to get a decent multiplier while you fight it.

- You DEFINITELY want to have your multiplier at x12.8 before you reach the section where the train wagons appear. The section between the sub-boss and the boss is where you will net the most points because there are tons of enemies here.

- Remember you get invincibility when you break/double-break. This is normally how you want to get the x12.8 multiplier:

Start locking-on to enemies -> begin break -> max out the lock-on meter -> break -> lock-on 4 more missiles (they become accessible as soon as you break).

I'll post my replay sometime in the future when I figure out how to record it and upload it on youtube. In the mean time, look at some of the already-available ones on youtube. Personally I studied a bit of all videos above 75bill I could find on youtube. Pay attention to where they break,

Hope this helps. Video w/ commentary coming eventually (disclaimer: it might take 3 years tho.. teehee)

Edit: Lost my replay file because I uninstalled the game, and when I went to re-install, replays were gone. Not gunna do a video guide because I'm not about trying to re-do the achievement.

this guide isn't too useful for the 99% of players who can't 1cc this absurdly difficult game

There are probably methods of grinding stars to unlock Z-Type, but I don't know of them. The reason why I recommend clearing the game with 1 credit (on novice difficulty) is because it's a reasonable goal to aim before attempting the Score Attack achievement, meanwhile unlocking Type Z which makes Score Attack significantly easier.

The 1cc novice achivements have ~5% completion rate, which isn't too bad considering the harder achievements are ~0.5% completion rate or lower

@Hidder That achievement is cumulative, so the answer in your words is: "in total counting all games you play". (at least iirc, havent played this game in over a year)

the achievement that requires youy to collect 3 million stars is: "In total counting all games you play" or "3 million in a single game run" ???

@Mr12Inches Getting MASTER++ ranking is possible with all aircrafts. This guide strongly recommends the Type-Z because it is significantly easier to get MASTER++ w/ it than the other ships.

I don't think the requirements for the different ranks are posted anywhere. I even checked the Time Attack systems guide that came as part of the superplay DLC and there is no mention of rank requirements whatsoever.

I've watched a bunch of Time Attack attempts, and the ones that achieve Master++ rank seem to meet one or more of the requirements:

- Score over 73 mil
- Get more than 2800 break
- Collect more than 80,000 stars

Given all my past experience with this game, I wish I could give a more conclusive answer to this question. All I can say is that Master++ is possible with type-III as well. (Proof: I did it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19QP85vXzUw )

@[̲̅$̲̅(̲̅ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°̲̅)̲̅$̲̅] I'm actually not 100% sure how many points you need to get MASTER++. This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvwyuV2p92g shows MASTER++ popping under 75mil so now I'm not too sure what the criteria is. If anyone has info on the specific req. to get MASTER++ rank, please share it.

it would seem 75 million points no longer gets you master++. i got 75,672,460, 2915 break count, no deaths, with the type-z and only got master+. anyone know the new criteria? is score the only factor?
