Today we’ll be looking at the skill surf map Water Run Banjo. This is a small and extremely easy map which contains 4 stages and 1 very difficult bonus stage. Originally made by Mario and Nutz it was redone by Banjo Boy.

A very simple stage for anyone who surfed before. It’s just 2 ramps and a ladder at the end which leads onto a platform. The border of the map looks Mario themed wall and grass with a wooden door.

The second stage consists of multiple ramps and water platforms to allow easier completion for all skill levels. This is the same as the war surf map. This time there is no wall around the edge of the map but a part does explode at the end of the first ramp for a secret on other versions of the map.

Something you don’t see often is that on the third stage there is a cylinder that can be surfed or bunny hopped through using the water provided. Only containing 2 ramps it challenges the player to land inside of a Mario pipe which is needed to advance onto the next stage.

Starting out similar to the third stage the fourth stage has a pipe after the first ramp. Falling through does not teleport you but instead places you on top of the second ramp which explodes if you’re the first person through it. Then using the third ramp you simply need to land on the final platform to complete all the stages.

The bonus stage is extremely difficult and I can see that it was made to give anyone who was over the map a difficult challenge to keep them entertained while they wait for the next map. It contains a fast rotating ramp which is needed to complete the stage.

Design: 1/5
It’s not a nice sight to looks at and the assets used look like they’ve just been thrown in together. Nothing matches as all and ultimately hearing the name Water Run Banjo I think of a completely different theme aimed to do with water and jungle.

Fun: 5 / 5
The amount of enjoyment one can get out of this small map is amazing. There seems to always be a new way to try and improve your time and you can see why the original map was popular in Counter Strike 1.6.

Flow: 2 / 5
The flow of the map is fine but could be easily improved. It never teleported you to the correct direction or showed you which way it was to the ramp. When I fell off the ramp I had to guess which side of the platform I needed to jump off and for anyone who couldn’t complete the map in 1 run this is very annoying.

Overall: 2.6 / 5
With how much fun I was having I would play this map again on any server and with how short and easy it is it’s great for any beginner surfers.
