2) find mafiadefinitiveedition.exe > Right click > Properties

3) Compatibility Tab > Tick Disable Full Screen Optimization > Apply

The freezing and black screen problem occurs when the game runs in fullscreen mode. Disabling fullscreen optimizations fixes the issue for many users, but if that didn’t work for you, try this:

Go to "Documents\My Games\Mafia Definitive Edition\Saves", open videoconfig with Notepad, and replace its content with:

0 0 1920 1080 2 0 0 0 0

This will run the game in windowed mode, which should hopefully resolve the issue. You can switch back to fullscreen, but you will need to change the setting each time you start the game.

@Comedown_Machine I have tested this method on my PC, and it works fine without any issues. If it's not working for you, could you please let me know which version of Windows you are using? That might help in finding a solution.
