Introduction
Greetings, one and all, and welcome to an Anomaly Guide for the Ten Bells. This is a simple guide that will inform you of what anomalies to look out for in the game.

The story behind this game is that you are going through a tavern known simply as The Bells. However, you find you have a hard time actually leaving, as the entrance is barred from you, and every trip through the tavern returns you to the starting area. Not only that, but you have to be aware of anomalies that may or may not appear in each trip.

There are at least 38 anomalies to encounter, and fortunately, after beating the game once, you'll find a list of the anomalies you have found, and what you have yet to find, at the beginning of each of your journeys; new ones that you find will be marked with glowing text to help you keep track of what you have encountered. Certain anomalies also have an achievement associated with them upon witnessing the event, and will be listed along with the anomaly associated with it.

AS OF OCTOBER 20, 2024, there is a second mode, called Nightmare Mode, that includes several (almost double) new anomalies that are exclusive to that mode. Further information will be mentioned in the "Nightmare Anomalies" segment.

Some anomalies may also have different characters involved in it:
-The Bartender is the male that you see tending the bar on one half of the tavern (the side with the red walls). He will pace back and forth and will occasionally clean the countertop. In certain anomalies, he will disappear, however.
-The Barmaid is the female that tends the other half of the bar (the green side). She will pace back and forth, but will stop at one point to briefly sob, for some reason. She has a tendency to disappear during certain anomalies, but mainly whenever there is a ghost involved.
-The Ghost is a special entity that will appear during anomalies. Sometimes the ghost will do nothing but stare at you, but other times it can chase you down.

During these chase sequences, your safety zone will be back at the door you came into from the start (the Lavatory door) as the chasers will stop going after you and instead walk off to one side.

Also, several of the anomalies may be lethal; that is, it may "kill" you and reset your progress (Back to "Zero Bells"). If you do get killed by any anomaly, it will not count in the list; you have to return to the safe room in order to register the anomaly. Chase segments WILL kill you if they catch you, so they will not be mentioned in the anomaly, but other anomalies will be listed if they can be lethal.

With that out of the way, let's see what anomalies await us!
Left half of Anomalies
  • Death From Above - As you reach the Hallway, the ceiling in the tavern will suddenly start to lower down, threatening to crush you. You need to be further into the safe zone to avoid getting crushed, as the ceiling extends a bit further into the safe room.

  • The Corner - In the alcove on the Bartender's side of the tavern (just next to the Lavatory Door), the head of the Ghost can be seen in the upper corner.

  • The Discarded - As you approach the barrel table, a corpse of the barmaid will suddenly fly into the room and slam into the barrel. The (living) Barmaid disappears in this anomaly.

  • On Guard - The Bartender will block the entryway to the Private room. However, he also blocks the way to the Lavatory if you backtrack. Returning to the Private Room (or at least the barmaid's half of the tavern) and then back, will make him disappear from both locations.

  • Mouth of Hell - A bell will appear on the logs in the fireplace on the Barmaid's side. Approaching it will cause the Ghost to partially emerge from the fireplace; however it will not chase you. (Achievement: Not Santa)

  • Lofty Gaze - The Ghost will watch you from high and behind one of the columns in the Barmaid's side of the tavern. It will not chase you.

  • The Excuse - Several of the larger paintings (mostly of the women) will have the message "YOU MADE ME DO IT" written on them.

  • Stain of Sorrow - The barrel table by the entrance will be covered in blood. Upon looking up, you can see a coffin-shaped mark on the ceiling, also stained in blood. After a few seconds, a bloodied corpse emerges from the blood in the ceiling, before sinking back in.

  • The Final Sound - The bell on the bartender's counter will suddenly fly off the counter.

  • Missing Mats - A few of the tavern coasters will be missing on the tables. This is notable as, while they disappear, their shadows will remain.

  • House of Cards - A traditional "House of Cards" will appear on one of the tables at the end of the Barmaid's side of the tavern, but made with coasters instead of cards. Approaching the House will cause it to suddenly blow away. (Achievement: House of Cards)

  • A Burst of Passion - The Bell on the counter on the Bartender's side will suddenly explode with several more bells flying out of it, as you approach it.

  • Rack & Ruin - The Billiard balls on the pool table in the barmaid's side will switch positions. Approaching the pool table and looking at the Billiard Balls will cause them to rise into the air, and slam back down on the table, scattering the balls. (Achievement: Flying Orbs)

  • The 10 Bells - This is an automatic anomaly, and only triggered after making it to the Tenth Bell the first time in a new game. This also contains a major spoiler, so only look if necessary:

As you approach the Barmaid's side of the tavern, you'll see the Barmaid herself walking into the hallway towards the cellar. The Bartender follows behind her, from the hallway, holding a bell in his hand. As they both enter the Cellar, the door closes, and a moment later you hear the sound of the Bell hitting the Barmaid, exactly ten times.

Two other things occur during this anomaly: The door to the Lavatory slams shut behind you, preventing you from turning around. Also, the Private Room instead leads to a staircase that goes into a small hallway leading the funeral service that is mentioned in a pamphlet at the beginning of the game. And if you look closely during the camera panning around the deceased, you can see the crack marks from where the Bartender bludgeoned her with the bell.

  • Larger Than Life - A giant, partially bloodied version of the Bartender will appear at the end of the Barmaid's side of the tavern (where the fireplace is). The Bartender himself will disappear on his side of the tavern when the anomaly is triggered. (NOTE: you will not see this anomaly early; that is, you won't see it even if you look through the doorways behind the bar. This only triggers once you circle around to the other side.)

  • Can't Leave - The Barmaid will be seen weeping by the entrance of the tavern. Upon approaching her, the entrance will suddenly flash, and the Barmaid turns into the Ghost, promptly chasing you.

  • The Light Tread - A bell will be floating in the hallway. Upon returning to the Lavatory, you'll see several more floating bells, with the ghost in the corner by the pool table, weeping, with her back turned to you. Making contact with any of the bells will cause them to fall and anger the Ghost, who will chase you.

  • The Last Place on Earth - As you approach the Private room in the hallway, the door will suddenly slam shut. When you go back down the hall, the Cellar door will open on its own. The Barmaid disappears during this anomaly.

Entering the Cellar will reveal the body of the Barmaid behind some barrels, beaten to death by the bell that lays next to her. After a couple seconds, the room will start filling up with blood, up to the landing of the stairs. A bloody head will emerge from the blood, point at you, then sink back into the blood. (CAUTION: Stepping into the blood will kill you.)

(Added note: The Achievement “Underworld” may be unlocked here, but at the time of writing it is unknown, as I had unlocked it at the same time as when I first died in the game from a different anomaly)

  • The Eyes that Followed Me - A barstool on the Bartender's side of the tavern will start following you. It stops following when you turn around to face it, or when you retreat to the Lavatory.
Right half of Anomalies
  • Death From Above - Either this is a second variant or a misnamed Anomaly. Either way, the grandfather clock in the hallway will be tilted forward. If you stand in front of it for too long, the grandfather clock will suddenly lurch and fall on top of you.

  • Grip of Death - A giant Ghost's hand reaches out from the Cellar door, attempting to grab you, and slams down in front of the Grandfather clock before retreating.

  • A Glimpse - The Cellar door will be partially opened, with a light coming from it. While you can't interact with the door, approaching the opening of the door will reveal the barmaid weeping, and the ghost suddenly appearing in a jumpscare, before the Cellar light goes out. The Barmaid herself disappears when this anomaly occurs. (Achievement: Up Close and Personal)

  • The Rug - All the rugs on the Barmaid's side of the tavern, as well as an extra rug in the Bartender's side, will have the same yellow and red pattern instead of their regular designs. Notably, the circular rug at the end of the Barmaid's room, next to the fireplace, will have a blood trail leading to the hatch.
(Easter Egg note: The rugs' pattern is a nod to the same pattern that's found in the movie "The Shining")

  • Slime Books - The bookshelf next to the Lavatory (and to an extent, a set of paintings in the small nook area) will be covered in a green slime. After looking at the bookshelf for a moment, several of the books will suddenly fly out of the shelf at you. (Achievement: Flying Ooze)

  • The Switcheroo - The Bartender will appear in both his side and the Barmaid's side of the tavern. Notably, on the Barmaid's side, he stands in one spot but tries to clean a bloodstain on the counter with an equally bloody rag.

  • The Upside-down - Several of the stools in the tavern will have been flipped over and resting on the booths. The stools at the bar are unaffected.

  • The Backwards Habit - The taps on the bar will be flipped. That is, the spout side of the taps will be facing outwards instead of inwards.

  • Getting Smaller - You will shrink down as you progress through the tavern (but reset when you reach the hallway). This will be notable if you look at the bar counter and are eye-level with the counter's brass rails.

  • Interior Rotation - The Barmaid's side of the tavern will have red walls instead of green walls.

  • Ocean of Blood - All the ship paintings in the tavern will contain blood instead of regular water.

  • The Hatch - The bar hatch on the barmaid's side of the tavern (on the fireplace side, specifically) will be open, revealing a large piece of canvas and a bloodied handprint. The hatch will slam shut upon examining it. (Achievement: Bar Slam)

  • Poltergeist - This anomaly does not trigger until you approach the hallway. The stools at the bar will suddenly move and partially surround you; upon returning to the Lavatory door, several pieces of furniture will suddenly start flying out at you. Both the Bartender and the Barmaid will disappear when the anomaly is triggered.

  • The Watchful Eyes - A giant Ghost will peer down at you from a missing segment of the ceiling in the hallway

  • The Dull Sounds of Pain - Giant bells will appear to block you in the hallway; upon returning to the Lavatory, several large bells will be in your way, some with blood on them. One bell near the safe room will be dented, and burst into flames when you approach it. Stepping on this bell (possibly other bells, but the dented one) will actually kill you.

  • The Revenge - The Staff Door in the hallway will be partially open (there's a red glow coming from the room that you can see from a distance). Approaching the hallway will cause the Ghost to emerge from the Staff Room and will chase you.

  • The Crimson Mirror - A large puddle of blood will appear in the hallway; upon returning to the Lavatory, several other puddles of blood will appear throughout the tavern. On occasion, a bloodied face will emerge from the puddle.

  • The Scorned - The Bartender will emerge from the cellar when you approach the hallway and chase you. He disappears from behind the counter when this anomaly is triggered.

  • Ascension - This is automatic after finding all the other anomalies (including "The Ten Bells" above). This also is a major spoiler warning:

Upon entering the tavern, the door slams behind you, again, but this time the bartender is missing. Instead, the barmaid is standing at the counter, smiling, next to a newspaper that reveals that the bartender/landlord, Arthur, was arrested for the murder of his wife/barmaid, Clara. The entrance door is also wide open, and you can leave through the entrance.

(This also automatically gives you the "Perfectionist" and "Ascension" achievements)
Nightmare Anomalies
This lists only anomalies that are found during the Nightmare run of the Ten bells. The other anomalies listed above can and will appear in the mix, but this segment only lists the anomalies that are uniquely appearing during Nightmare Mode.

Another thing to note is that there's another difference between Nightmare and normal modes. It is possible to have an anomaly in Nightmare mode during No Bells (the "reset loop" as it is called), so it's best to pay attention after getting past the initial new game loop.

A comment in my guide pointed out something interesting, though I do not know (yet) if it does apply to normal mode: You will never get a normal loop twice in a row (ignoring the very start of the run). I do not know if this also applies to Normal Mode.

  • Head on Display - A bloodied head can be seen in the bottom shelf of the cabinet closest to the barrel table, on the bartender's side. Examining it will cause a jumpscare with the aforementioned bloodied head.

  • The Absent Pour - There are three sets of taps on each side of the tavern instead of four.

  • Don't Ignore Me - The painting of the girl in black (found in the nook in the Bartender's side, near the Lavatory door) is shown to be stabbed by the man behind her.

  • Trim - The bartender's mustache disappears. It also disappears in the painting of himself above the fireplace. (alternate theory: the mustache disappears on the painting first, THEN the bartender on the way back)

  • Time of Death - The grandfather clock in the hallway reads 6:30, instead of roughly 9:10. (Didn't personally see this anomaly, but is on my list.)

  • The Cold Touch - The barmaid looks a little paler than usual. Her hands are also either a blue color or she is wearing gloves.

  • The Final Curtain - The Curtains inside the tavern are black instead of orange. Depending on your graphics settings, this may be difficult to see with the light filtering through the windows.
  • The Change of Pace - An advertisement for a "Parcels Express" Tricycle is changed to be that of The "Car". This appears in the Barmaid's side of the tavern, next to the large painting of the ship. Another flyer can be seen in the seating area of the Bartender's side, but it does not change.(Theory)

  • Odd Stool Out - The Stools with the White Covers on each side of the tavern, are either missing or replaced with red covers.

  • The Hidden Toll - A bell is hiding in the upper shelves on the barmaid's side of the counter, in the corner closest towards the billiard table. You can see the bell if you look through the opening from the bartender's side.

  • Blood on the Felt - A bloodied corpse of the Ghost appears on the pool table; when retreating to the Lavatory, the Barkeeper will emerge from behind the far column (from your position) to chase you. You Can avoid him by looping around the other column.

  • ]Cueless - A pair of cue sticks will be missing in the corner of the Barmaid's side of the room, near the pool table. They will normally be behind the chair in the corner on the side where the large painting of the ship resides.

  • The Prodigal Chair - The sole chair that is flipped over and resting on a table, on the bartender's side of the tavern, will be upright on the floor. (Did not see personally, but is on my list.)

  • Twisted Foundations - The central pillars in the tavern are rotated 45 degrees, giving them an angled appearance instead of a straight appearance.

  • Tarnished Rag - The Bartender's rag that he pulls out to clean the countertop is orange instead of Green. (this is the same color rag used in "The Switcheroo" anomaly, but he remains on his side of the tavern on this anomaly.)

  • Overwatch - A giant, twisted form of the Bartender (or at least his head and hands) will appear in the entrance nook, in the ceiling. The Bartender disappears at the counter during this anomaly.

  • Mutton Chops - A man's portrait, to the right of the hallway, will be missing his mutton chops.

  • This Little Light - An extra lamp is turned on on each side of the tavern; The light next to the admiral's portrait on the bartender's side, and the light in the far corner on the Barmaid's side. (Did not see this anomaly, but is on my list.)

  • An Eye for Ale - The two central sets of taps on the Barmaid's side will have eyeballs on the handles.

  • Gasping For Life - A bloodied arm is reaching out in the seating area underneath the man's portrait on the barmaid's side.

  • Ascension (Nightmare variant) - Finding all of the Nightmare Anomalies (at least; it is unknown if you need ALL the anomalies) reveals this anomaly.

Similar to the previous, when you enter the tavern, the door slams behind you, and you'll see the barmaid standing behind the counter, smiling with a newspaper stating about Arthur's arrest. However, you will notice that the bartender is now blocking the entrance of the tavern, forcing you to make your way through it to the staff room, which is normally closed. Entering the staff room will lead you into Arthur's office, where there is a newspaper on the desk, stating that he had escaped custody, and that the person who summoned the police on him for his wife's death, is now involved in the police work of recapturing him. You can also interact with a loose book, that opens a secret panel to another room, where you see a bloodied top hat among some blades, and a book on anatomy, as well as a cryptic message "Hell Awaits". Leaving the office, you'll find the bartender standing in the doorway to the hall, surrounded by flames. Entering and re-exiting the office will make him disappear, allowing you to exit the tavern proper. (Achievement: "Discover the Truth", upon opening the secret room.)

The top hat and the book on anatomy in the secret room is a reference to a classic serial killer in London, known as Jack the Ripper.
Final Notes
A few final things to add before I wrap this up:

It has been mentioned (in this very guide's comments below, in fact) that if you miss too many anomalies, the game will "reset" and will change the list of the anomalies around. The guide will have my list of anomalies, but be warned that your list may be a different order.

Seasonal decorations (for example, the pumpkins and candles during the Halloween season) are not part of anomalies, and (as far as I know) they are not set up to interfere with spotting any anomalies.

You will notice that I don't mention the names of the bartender, the barmaid, or the Ghost. This is because the barmaid and the ghost are the same person - Clara, who is murdered by her husband, the bartender, Arthur. This is revealed in both the Glimpse and the Ascension anomalies.

Any anomalies that you do encounter and correctly identify will no longer appear again, unless you restart the entire game or you get the Ascension anomaly. Use this fact as a reference to know what not to look for.

A special thank you as well to a few people that helped me with the guide, especially when I started working on the Nightmare Mode. I do take some pride in having the ability in doing something by myself, but at the same time I have no shame in admitting when I get help, so the following people I will certainly thank for their contributions:

  • E.M.J. for providing a list of the titles of the anomalies, as well as the trick about knowing if there is an anomaly or not.
  • Coloneljoe20, Great White Spark, and HYPERED1 for identifying some of the anomalies, so that I knew what it was to look for.
  • Acrylic Pixel (The developers!) For the game in general. I played a lot of different anomaly games, such as the Observation Duty series, and Midnight Monitor, but this is certainly the first game that I've played in which the anomalies themselves are actually incorporated into a story and plot. This is a fantastic game, and the setting is well done!

I hope you enjoyed looking through this guide - I certainly had a lot of fun playing the game and learning the lore of it - and if you have any further comments, let me know!

I suspect the "Two safe rooms in a row is impossible" rule has been patched, as I keep getting a restart when I try turning back after a second safe room.

Maybe you have to go partway into the room, or something.

It's annoying, because I keep getting resets from that, or from false positive safe runs.

Great guide, thank you. I think they might have just renamed the other "death from above" to "clock slam"

@Direspirit: Or the bloodied bell is in multiple spots. Every time I retreat from the hallway in "The Hidden Toll" I don't look at the fireplace, but thanks for pointing that out.
Direspirit 9 Des 2024 @ 4:49am
For 'The Hidden Toll' the bloodied dented bell was to the left of the fireplace on the barmaid's side.
Seems there might be alternative locations.

Before you've unlocked the true ending (all hard anomalies) you can follow this algorythm :

When you have a normal pub, the next one always has an anomaly
When you had 2 anomalies in a row, the next pub is normal

Basically you only need to figure out if there is a second anomaly after you successfully find one.

After you've unlocked the true ending this algorythm no longer holds. I've had 2 normal pubs in a row aswell as a rare 3 anomalies in a row.

@Chamelion Your Guide is now completed. Thanks for mention my name

Correction for 'This Little Light':- the light on the bartender's side is the right hand one in the second booth where the bicycle poster is.
Coloneljoe20 5 Nov 2024 @ 9:20am
@Chamelion Yeah, I noticed that. But, I shared few screenshots of new anomalies in most recent at screenshots section of steam community

@Coloneljoe20 oh, also, the two pictures you provided that you found in anomalies? They're in the normal one. The giant hand is Grip of Death and the paintings are the Ocean of Blood anomalies.

@Chamelion, I am glad to help fellow gamers across the world (not dimensions)
