By the time the main forces of the Consolidation Defense Fleet were closing in on the Aenum Republic capital system and fighting in enemy territory, the Consolidation's resources to protect its trade routes were beginning to run out, leading to the emergence of new pirates in the outlying regions of the OPC

A significant portion of the first generation Serene class ships were destroyed by Aenum forces in the first weeks of the war while the Consolidation was gathering its main forces at the borders, which resulted in an increase in pirate attacks on cargo and mining ships in OPC territory

After seeing the success of the Defiant class ships being modified, the Consolidation Engineering Bureau developed an updated version of the Serene, the production of which was turned over to Ontosh Shipyards

The new ships, which received, according to the doctrine introduced with Coercer, reinforced armament and an interior designed for a long stay of the crew, began to arrive in the OPC colonies located in the Far Frontier, where the influence of pirates was more significant than in other regions, and there also passed their first combat tests
