I think that learning to play video games so you can enjoy them with your kids is super honorable. I wish my dad played CSGO with me although he'd probably get pissed off because of how awful people can be, as you've seen.
Another thing that will help you to not be bullied, is to change your profile picture and create a user name that isn't your real name. It's extremely uncommon to come across people who have their actual name as their in-game username, and even less so with a picture of them as the profile picture.
