Ballora's Gallery - The REAL Way to Win.
Av Massive Rat
Having trouble with Ballora's stupid gallery? I know I was, and so were some of my friends. A lot of advice I found online was NOT very helpful, and an unexpected strategy lead to my victory. It Could Work For YOU!

1. Seeing Static? Get out of the ground.
I'm writing this assuming this is the first guide you see, so I'm not leaving ANY part out of this. If your screen is static, use the height adjust to move yourself out of the ground. To imitate the action of crawling, the game puts the ground awfully close to your head. For the purposes of my strategy, make sure the ground is grabbable when you stick your arms out straight forward.
2. The Basic Mechanics
Ballora's Gallery is a Stop and Go type minigame. When there's silence, you GO! Crawl along the floor by dragging yourself forward with your greasy lil hands. When there's music, you STOP. If she's singing, you can also GO. If she says "I Can Hear Someone". You stop.

The screw in the works comes up when those dastardly Minireenas show up. You'll hear them giggling as they come towards you. They DO NOT kill you directly, but their constant giggling alerts Ballora to their location, which is NORMALLY next to you. The way to stop these pests? Throw them away. And hopefully Ballora going to locate where you threw them doesn't take her directly through you or you'll be met with an jumpscare and a reset.

A Minireena, for reference.
3. Go, Quickly!
The truth is, this section of the game has no speed cap. You can literally go as fast as your arms can drag you across the floor.

WARNING
Do NOT go fast right at the start of the minigame. If you go too quickly before the main gameplay has kicked in, you will softlock the game, and need to restart. This is why many people will tell you to go slowly. However, once Ballora is off of her stage and has played her music through at least once, you are good to go as fast as you please.

So, why go fast? Well, faster you cross the floor, the less you have to deal with. Less waiting, less Minireenas. Hell, if you die whilst going fast, you've also lost less progress. As long as you stop when you need to stop, you can make it across. Adopting this speedy mindset is what immediately got me my first victory.

Speed also has some adverse and advantageous effects on other gameplay mechanics. Mostly in how Minireenas work.
4. More info about Minireenas
"I Can Hear Someone"

Once you've heard your first Minireena giggle, you should check your left and right to make sure none of them have crept up on ya every time Ballora makes you stop. Make it a habit. Ballora's "I Can Hear Someone" line seems to be linked to her hearing a Minireena, so if you hear that, get on the lookout.

Throw the 'Reena, not the Run

Many people have trouble throwing in VR. I'm no exception. If you don't throw Minireenas far enough away, Ballora's got you. You're dead. I see a lot of people who throw the Minireenas like a frisbee or a boomerang. In my experience, throws like that make it much more likely they'll drag along the ground upon release, and be put giggling right next to you.

I started throwing them like shot puts. Palm facing outwards, like you're pushing them away. It makes them absolutely fly. It's also easier to throw them like this in smaller play areas. Win-win.

The Quick Crawler's Methods

Something I noticed whilst replaying the minigame to make this guide as accurate as possible; The Minireenas stop moving forever once they reach you. Provided Ballora isn't dancing right in front of you, just keep speeding forward through the minireena. If anything, it'll provide a distant distraction for Ballora to go inspect instead of you.

If you wanna play it safe, this also means you can quickly back up once the Minireena has reached you. It should stay put as far in front of you. Providing a perfectly placed distraction to stop Ballora finding you.
5. Conclusion
Hopefully with my hints and tips you'll find this treacherous minigame much more managable. Personally, it's one of my least favourite in the game, and the Sister Location themed minigames you unlock after this one are significantly more enjoyable.

Future Steps

I may record some example gameplay to spice up this guide with visuals in the future.

Theoretically it might be possible to crawl fast enough to outrun Ballora and reach the exit without stopping with perfect movement. Might look into this.

I noticed that throwing a minirina and then running up a few steps would always place ballora behind me

I'm playing on flat mode but this was still super helpful and epic I didnt realize there had to be actual thought put into when where and how you throw the minireenas thank u for that

Another thing I would like to add to this is to avoid going too far left or right. There is a secret enemy in this level who will jumpscare you if you do so. Bidybab does give a warning before racing towards you so you do have a chance to avoid it, though he will watch and follow from that point. I found this out by sheer accident before I had any confidence in throwing the Minireenas.

Also, side note, you can go incredibly fast without softlocking yourself if you use small motions, even when the Dread Unit is giving his intro spiel. For some reason Ballora had the hardest time locating me when i was moving the controllers in a small circle and smashing away at the triggers. Played today doing that and I was 2/3 of the way through before the Minireena showed up to slow me down and Ballora usually was a fair distance from me 3 out of 5 times.

For some reason after the first time the minireenas giggled at and when I threw them, they never bothered me until I finished the EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND INFURIATING MINIGAME. But matter of fact you actually helped me, thanks!!

I try throwing the Minireenas like darts, but I swear, sometimes they go flying, sometimes they just bounce off of the air right in front of me and land right next to me just out of reach right when Ballora is attacking so I can’t crawl closer.
