TROOPERS!

Do you have that one soldier who just doesn't do their part?

Does the building of fresh outposts go to hell because everyone wants to build and no one wants to fight?

If so this is the guide for you!

Building 101 to fight the bug menace!
.

Press B (Default keybind) for your build tool.

Press R (Default keybind) to switch between build menu and repair mode.

Press Q and E (Default keybinds) to cycle left or right while in build mode.

If you have Ore available, a buildable area and stock left in the build mode - You can build on the Green area near the ARC/Mobile HQ.

Now trooper. You are fully qualified as an engineer. Build those mighty walls to show them bugs who's boss!

Avoiding Griefers
So you DO want to know more!

Sometimes bugs are not just the only enemy! I said it. BUG Sympathisers are!

Those who don't do their part and build inappropriately are just as bad as bugs! But don't take my word for it, Take his!

.

3 Rounds from sniper rifle to the cranium should do.

But without stooping to violence there is a report button but unfortunately at this time its pretty much useless until the game has an active ticketing system to take on reports of griefers and such.

So the lobotomy sounds just delightful.
.

A better kind of outpost
MOST IMPORTANT

Work together IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Try to communicate on who builds and who doesn't.

THE BASE BUILDING -

.

Small walls mess with AI pathing and can act as make shift tank traps.
You can not only shoot through them but also can place them on bunkers. They are cheap and pretty tough too.

**Tigers can walk over them**

If possible stagger the short walls in front of the big walls if you can (Below is a text and image representation)

_*_*_*_ 1st layer
*_*_*_* 2nd layer

Note to self, do not use the small walls on the outside of the base against a wave. They are only there to slow the enemy down.

.

Can also be used to add another little barricade between sentry turrets on the wall and the bugs.

Side note - Outside small walls work well with proxy mines and thermo charges to give breathing room between waves and bug attacks for precious time to repair.
.

Sentry Placement
.

THIS IS NOT HOW YOU DO IT

Please also do not put them inside the base or next to the ARC with the electric fences. They are supposed to keep things out of the outpost not be used as a last scramble effort to defend the ARC.

I understand the theory behind it but the ONLY fight I lost was when the turrets were on the inside. Not on the perimeter walls.

Sure there is a line of fire on the horizon but the turrets can basically aim to the floor.

Place them on walls and in the centre of bunkers. Combine with the small wall line for a little added flavour.

.

As above and as below
.
Now here's a little tip too.

Try and not keep all sentry turrets bundled up tight.

Spread them out

2 on a long wall (preferably at some point either side of a large gate)

(T = Turret)
(<_> = Gate)
.
Watchtowers
OUTSTANDING

You've made it this far

Keep em in place where you have a clear line of sight and/or next to areas you can access to get up high. It helps when fighting grenadiers and gunners because you can spot those prickly little roaches a mile away. If you can survive their rapid fire and toughness of course.
.

.

Just a wee little example

.
.
.
Bunkers
.

Bunkers!

In the image above you can see the wall is not in line with the nose or very front of the bunker.

Keep the bunkers in line with your walls on it's mid point.

You can then have a nice little line of fire for the front of the walls
.
.

Shooting bugs has never been so easy.

Also you can build small walls on top of the bunker to protect from gunners
.
.

El Bunker

- - - - B - - - - The wall should look like this

_ _ _ B _ _ _ Not like this (at the front or back)
.
Keeping those troops stocked!
Try keep your troops on the walls stocked

Place them in SENSIBLE locations. Not in the dead centre next to the ARC where people leave their post and then have to run away to get ammo

.

This is a prime example of good restock location

.

Not that marathon halfway to Klendathu

Walls do NOT kill bugs.
Bunkers do NOT kill bugs.

Well since the bugs came out in hordes i've been pushing paper by the commemorating our glorious fallen. I am currently investigating the federation database and will update this guide as soon as possible. So no, not promoted just yet trooper. But soon will be!

Good stuff. Say, have you been promoted yet? You should be!

fun read, thank you.

suggestion: 2 people can hold off an entire late game wave of bugs easily. one person stays next to the ARC and repairs any damage to its walls, the other person uses a manned turret, and repairs it as need be, to hose down the bug wave. the key here is that the turret MUST NOT be between the bugs and the ARC. keep it a ways off of the bugs main path to the ARC and they'll flat out ignore you most of the time (gun down the few that dont) and you'll kill them fast enough that the inside guy can repair any damage.

good tips in here. There's plenty more, such as the gate+tower combo, throwing walls onto "map walls" to make them traversable, "honeycomb" base design, MG placement "back" on bunkers so you can't use them on warriors and only use them on Tigers, and multi-level base design (always plan for walls to fall)

And on Horde, in the underground garage, put a bunker at every interior chokepoint (4). NO EXCEPTIONS. Not walls, not gates. Bunkers. And beyond it, in the two chokepoints with hallways, put a gate or 2 between it and the exterior end of the hallway. BUT NOT THE REVERSE, unless you plan to leave the gate open and park a Bastion or a TMG right in front of it, but that's a waste of resources. This is the easiest location to win, and this is the best defense to help you get there.

I'm late to this, but all in all very good points. One exception, or at least a qualification. Small walls on top of bunkers. Do NOT build them all the way across the bunker, creating a small wall. You can't shoot a GL over them! If you put them up there, leave a gap between each one, so Support can still get a full range of fire, and duck behind one when necessary.

Punishing griefers as they grief is often difficult, even pointless, with respawns as an option. The best method is to quietly wait until the evac comes, and make sure they never make it. There are few better punishments than a watching everyone you interfered with escape while the bugs turn you into protein.
