Introduction

There are some great tutorials for this game but nothing seems to cover the entirety so I’d like to provide all that information for you! All of the other guides are fantastic and have very specific breakdowns of specific aspects if you need it.
Achievement Master List
This is a list of all the achievements you can get in the game. You can refer to it, but you won't get them all until you've done two plays. We'll go over them all again as they pop up in the walk through!
Thanks to user Peepo The Elusive for the great compiling.
Tutorial - The Day Shift

This guide by user Lazarus covers the in-depth mechanics of the game if you need it.

You are Rebecca. You'll start the game with a cut scene where you're discussing your new job with your grandmother. When you regain control you'll be in your car in front of the mortuary. Exit the car and walk in. The game so far has decorated for holidays and had holiday content. So if there's a holiday coming up you may see some decorations and holiday specific bodies.

You'll see a clickable note on a door inside. It directs you to grab a pencil off the desk. Turn around and grab the pencil.

Open your inventory once you're back at the note, click the pencil, then click the note. Anytime you need to use an item this is how it'll be done. Some items are required to be used in a specific order.

Note that you'll see other clickable and obtainable items. Don't worry about them for now.

Open the door and walk through the hallway. The tutorial begins. For the purposes of the tutorial, you can take your time. But keep in mind that future shifts, time will play a factor.

You'll be asked by Raymond to move the body on the gurney back into cold storage. At the time of making this guide, the gurney mechanics may be tricky. Line up with the body's head and press the E key. Walk backwards through the hallway that leads into cold storage.

Before you get to cold storage you'll be prompted with an onscreen instruction for putting a body back into cold storage, and for pulling one out.

Once you get into cold storage, you'll need to rotate the gurney to put it away. The game mechanics for this can be tricky depending on your mouse settings. I had to make sure I was still interacting with the gurney by pressing E and then repeatedly moving my mouse left or right in small motions to get it to turn.

Let go of the gurney by pressing E again, walk to the cold storage door that is indicated and open it. Click on the rail and hold it while walking backwards to drag it out. Go back to the gurney, press E and if you haven't turned it, turn it. Line the gurney up with the rail and it should automatically click in to the rail. Move the gurney to the side to get it out of the way. Click on rail and hold it while walking forward to push it back into cold storage. Click and hold the door to close it.

Follow the on screen instructions to open a new cold storage door, pull out the body, line up the gurney, turn in, and wheel it back through the hallway to Raymond. This is one of the most time consuming parts of the game.

Once the body is in place, Raymond will ask you to get to work on it. Walk over to the desk and grab the clipboard. You'll need to grab this each shift. Then return to the body and start at the head. Click the magnifying glass.

From here on you will be walking around the body checking for marks, injuries, and identifiable features. They are usually indicated with a little swirl of smoke. When you see something, like a mole on the face, or a scratch on the shoulder, click on it and Rebecca will automatically mark it on the clipboard. The corner of the clipboard tells you how many things you're looking for. So it might start of, for instance, with 0/4. Rebecca will also say something when she's finished finding everything. You'll need to rotate various parts of the body to check for marks.

Once that is done, Raymond will ask you to put the information in the computer. Click on Record System. There will be a brief on screen tutorial. Click each item on the clipboard, and then click the corresponding space on the computer input. At this point Rebecca might hear something strange.

Once it's finished, it will print. Turn around and grab the print out from the printer. Walk down the hall that leads to the entrance. You'll see a filing system on the wall. Click the embalming report in your inventory and then click on the filing system to put it away. Turn around and return to Raymond.

Now you're going to get to work on the body. You can open your clipboard and you'll see a list of what needs to be done. It has to be done in order, and you can only carry so many items at a time. My suggestion is to only grab the items that you need for each task.

It's important to note that as you play the game, the location of the items will continuously change. You will need to walk around and open cabinets and drawers etc. They will spawn in different spots. For the tutorial, everything should be right in front of the window.

For the first two tasks I grab the needle injector, setting needles, and eye caps first. Setting needles and eye caps are in small boxes. The needle injector looks like a large thick needle. Grab those. Then walk over to the body's head. Click on the magnifying glass and right click to open the quick inventory and select the needle injector.

This part is pretty gross. You're going to follow the onscreen tutorial to wire that mouth shut and it makes some noises like a nail gun! The nice thing about this game is that on screen tutorials will pop up through the whole thing if you leave them on. It helps you if you forget how to do something.

Next, open and close each eye and open them again. Place the eye caps. Close the eyes.

Next, you'll need to fill the embalming pump machine. You can only carry one of the bottles at a time so grab a bottle from the shelf, and use it on the pump, turn around and do it again until they're all filled.

Once this is done you want to grab a scalpel, forceps (which look like tiny scissors) and tubing. Walk to the opposite side of the body and look at the neck. You'll be prompted to make a cut, place the forceps, and the tubing.

Walk back to the pump and turn it on. Blood will drain from the body and it's pretty gross. You can look elsewhere if you need to. I usually pick up the next items which are the IV bag and the trocar (looks like a really long needle).

Once the blood runs clear you can turn off the pump, walk back around and remove the tubing and stitch up the neck. Then take an IV bag to the cavity fluid tank that is on the shelf to your left. Once it's filled, turn back to the body. Use the trocar on the belly.

This part is also gross. Move the trocar around so that the bar at the bottom goes from red to empty. It makes a sucking sound. Enjoy!

When this is finished, it's time to go to the bathroom. Walk back out to the entrance and you'll see another door to open. Walk into the bathroom, and into the storage room within it. Click on one of the cleaners on the shelf. Then click on the jug with a spout to mix the cleaner. Walk back to the body and put that cleaner in the pump.

The last step for this body once the pump is finished making noise, is to wash the face. Grab a moisturising sheet (a little foil packet). Engage the face and start moving the mouse back and forth until the bar at the bottom is gone. At this point you're going to get hit with your first haunt. That face is going to start melting away and the corpse is going to talk to you.

Normally at this point, you'd put the body back in cold storage. But Raymond has decided he'll finish up for today and you can go home. Great job. The game will automatically save now.

Now you'll get your first achievement.

The First Night Shift - The First Body
Important to note that if you want to get all the achievements you'll need to replay this first night. Many choose to do it right away because some of the other achievements require 50+ shifts. You don't want to have to lose your count later on.

After the auto-save, You'll be in your apartment sitting on your bed. You're on the phone. Raymond calls and interrupts, asking if you can cover for him tonight. You say yes.

You can look at things in your room, there are some fun Easter Eggs, and also some items that will help you on other shifts when you want specific endings. Don't worry about those items for your first shift. Instead, grab your keys and click the door. You'll find yourself once again in your car outside of the mortuary. Exit the car, enter the building.

Walk around for a moment, and then you'll hear the phone ring and see a figure at the door. Answer the phone. Raymond has set you up for something!

After the call look to where you first enter there is a vase on the table in the middle of the room. It's red. Pick it up and throw it to get an achievement!

Then, go to the bathroom on the left and flush the toilet. You'll get another achievement!

Back in the main room grab the sticky notes off the desk. Grab this every shift in the future. Open the red box on the desk, take the contents. Grab this again if you want the basement ending after this shift. You'll see a small table by the hallway door under a cross. Grab the box of matches off it. Grab this every shift.

Use the hall key that you grabbed from the box on the hall door. Go down the hallway. Occasionally throughout the game different haunts will lock you out of this hall. That usually means you need to interact with something or a ghost. Sometimes the lights turn off in the hall. You can turn them back on.

Once you're in, the phone will ring again. It's Raymond. He's going to explain loads of game mechanics. Don't worry about trying to remember it all.

Try to interact with the phone again after the call. It's dead. Here's an achievement. It only works on this first night right now.

We have a few things to do in this desk area to get you organized for the night. Use the old key in your inventory and open the cabinet. There's some occult stuff you'll need later. There's also a tape, grab it and listen. There's one in the drawer below along with some notes you can read. You'll find another tape on the desk. Every time you grab a tape they will automatically play, it's a lot of information. Don't stress.

Walk around the desk and grab the clipboard. Before we grab a body you need to get a passcode for the Night Shift program on the computer. So walk over to the cabinet on the wall to the left. The one that has the cavity fluid. Open the top drawer. You'll see Raymond's ID. Grab it and flip it over. This code is generated every shift and is different every shift. So you should find it every night. Go back to the computer. Click on night shift. Input the code. You'll now have access to the program for later.

While you're here by the computer, click on the computer tower to the left. You'll get another achievement!

Now, go and interact with the gurney and get your first body. It doesn't matter which one. The body's and their names will change every single time. If the tapes are still playing, no worries. Before you leave cold storage, go to the shelf across from the furnace. Near the ground is a bag item. Retrieve it. Then take the bag to the furnace and around a slot on the bottom you'll be prompted to use the bag. This will collect ashes. Do this every shift.

Bring the body to the usual spot.

With the body in place, start the inspection. As you're doing the inspection, the lights are going to go out.

At this point you have two options for two different achievements. If you want a perfect game, you'll need to replay this night so you can choose the other option.

Option one: During the haunt, act normal and continue working on the body. You'll get an achievement "I ain't afraid of no ghosts". Rebecca will say "there we go" when she's done marking all the spots.

Option 2: You're going to move really slow, it's ok. Try to run away. Run to the main entrance, open the door and run to the gate and try to open it, run to your car and try to drive away, run to the fence and try to climb over it. Rebecca might keep trying to go back to the body. Keep fighting it to get the achievement. Once the achievement pops up, go back to the body to continue your work.

Rebecca will say "there we go" when she's done marking all the spots. Head to the computer, input the information and print the file.

Take the embalming report to file it. One of the BEST SIGNS THAT YOUR BODY IS POSSESSED is if the file automatically jumps to the top. If this happens, it's a very reliable sign that your body is the possessed one. If it doesn't, it's a much lower chance. Even if the body does weird stuff.

Once you're back at the body, continue going through your list of things to do. Remember: every night the location of the items you need will change. Look around. Throughout this process, haunts may happen and weird stuff. Jump scares. You can open your inventory and draw on the little notepad to help your sanity. It's usually nothing. BUT if it looks like a symbol, you may want to compare it to the ones on the computer. (more on this later) You may see other additional items you can interact with like keys, a safe etc. Don't worry about those for this first night. They'll be covered later for specific endings/nights.

You'll notice when it comes times to fill the pump that you also need a regent. Grab this from the old cupboard and add it. Once the pump is going, you can go back to the cupboard and grab a letting strip. Equip the strip and walk around the morgue. You can do this for every body once the body has the regent in it. This is a little like hot and cold. If the strip starts to smoulder, walk in that direction, it'll burst into flames. Stop. Look around. You should find a symbol. You may see it behind doors or in cupboards depending on where you're standing. Sometimes if it happens in the hallway, the symbol winds up in the bathroom. Make note of the symbol. I usually take a photo with my real life phone to make it easier to keep track.

Sometimes you can get two symbols for a body or even three. So I'll often walk around with a new strip more than once. It takes a minute for the pump to get rid of all the blood anyway.

Continue working on the body. Keep an eye out for signs that it may be possessed. There's an excellent guide by Raptvre that goes through all the things you can keep an eye out for in terms of which body is the correct one. In my experience and in hers, the most reliable is if the embalming report goes to the very top.

I've also had a lot of success guessing the correct body if I see these signs on it

The First Night Shift - The Other Two Bodies
After that first body, you're going to go through all the same steps with the other two. If you take too long, you might become possessed. Don't worry if you do. There's an achievement related to it so you'll need it at one point or another.

It's unlikely you'll know if this very first body is possessed. But there are a few things you can do to check either this one, or the next two!

  • For each body be sure to do the letting strips after the regent is used, and keep track of the symbols (use my phone hack)
  • For each body open your note pad to scribble. It's usually nothing, but if it makes a symbol that matches a house of a demon as listed on the computer, there's a good chance it's your demon
  • Pay attention to the location of the embalming report
  • Pay attention to the injuries on the body

If you have two or more symbols from the letting strips, my suggestion would then be to use the ashes and the match. To do this you have to go gather the match and the ashes if you haven't already. Then, hover over the body's stomach at any point, right click inventory the ashes, and then the matches. Regardless of whether or not it's the correct body, it'll burn the demon's house symbol into it.

Look on the computer at the matching house symbol. Within it, check to see which letting sign symbols are associated with it. Usually I can narrow it down to two names if I haven't embalmed all the bodies. But you should be able to narrow it down to the exact name if you've done all three bodies and gotten at least 3 symbols and know the house because of the ashes.

Go to the old cabinet, and create the mark to match what you see on the computer. If you think you have the possessed body on the gurney, take the mark and place it on the body. If you aren't sure, don't take it yet.

If you've embalmed all three bodies and you've figured out the mark, but still not sure which one is possessed, you'll need to refer to this excellent guide we previously mentioned to review all the signs.

Put the body you think is possessed, with the mark on it, into the furnace. There will be a cut scene. You'll get your Flying Solo achievement.

Depending on if you choose the correct body, or the incorrect one, there will be two different endings:

Correct body:
You got it right! You'll get this the first time you beat the game. There will be a cut scene with lots of talking, then you'll start again in your apartment for shift 2.

Incorrect Body:
You embalmed them all but somehow picked the incorrect body to burn. If you don't get this by accident now, you may later, or you may need to do it on purpose during a different night if you want the achievement.

You will also get the possession achievement. But this could come earlier if you took took too much time. Again, if you don't get it on the first shift, it may be something you have to plan for later.

If you got the incorrect body or got possessed, you'll still start again at your apartment and ready for a new night.
My First Body Ending/ I survived Ending
To get these 2 endings, all you have to do is get the correct body as previously described. Two nights of the correct body will give you these two endings. Typically your first two shifts if you can do them both correctly.

The Bad Ending
If you don't choose the correct body or you take too long and get possessed, you'll get the bad ending. It's ok if you do because you still want it for the achievements.

Six Feet Under Ending
To get this ending and the associated achievements, you'll need to make some specific decisions right from the start of your shift. Make sure you grab the tape player from the desk out front.

First, you'll want to get the key that is in the drawer in the shelf where the cavity fluid is. It will be under some paper that you need to move. Then keep playing the game as usual.

At one point, a hatch will spawn in the cold storage room. Go down it and there will be a mini game with stone statues of people. Check their foreheads and you'll get a code. Every time I've played the code has been the same. 197044 .

When you wake up, upstairs again, find the keypad for a safe that is under one of the cabinets to the right of the window. Enter that code. It gives you the basement key. Go outside, you'll find a basement entrance behind the cold storage room.

Explore the basement to learn Raymond's history. There's a hidden tape you can listen to. Read the various documents etc.

Once you're finished, return and finish the night. You have to get the correct body, but then you should get the ending along with these two achievements.

Sobriety Ending/Rebecca's Ending

This is a story-heavy ending and you may get parts of it in the other night shifts but not the full thing if you haven't taken all the steps.

Before you leave your apartment, open the clothing drawers and hunt around for sobriety coins and take them. They're in a book you can open. Her father's necklace is also there. Take it.

When you're in the office, look in the drawers for the other coin. It should be in the same drawer where you found the basement key.

Go about your shift as usual. You'll get hit with some haunts and at one point Rebecca will be hanging from the ceiling with both hands outstretched. Put a coin in each hand.

Another thing you may find is her father on a gurney. If you get this, put the necklace around him.

After these cut scenes (You may only get one, there may be a mini game/haunt) finish your shift correctly. You'll get a really good ending and an achievement.

If you saved this ending for last and you've gotten all the other endings now too.. you'll also get an achievement for getting them all.
Non-Ending Specific Achievements
After that first shift, you can get a few other achievements that aren't specific to the ending. It's up to you when you do them.

Speed Run. To get this one, you need to do a shift in 45 minutes or less. Sometimes going too fast can also get you possessed too.

I know you. You can get this one by doing a shift where you don't embalm all the bodies. If you know for sure your first or second body is the possessed one, and you've figured out the mark, you can burn it. I have done it a few times. So you don't need to embalm them all. But note that once they're on your gurney, you're stuck and have to see it through.

When you're in Rebecca's apartment, hang out for a while with the radio on. DJ two-shade will play the same song, over and over. He'll comment on the fact you're still listening. Once he's said all of his dialog you'll get this. I think it took me close to 10 minutes.

You'll likely get this one just by simply trying to get all the endings. Experiencing all the main story events for learning who Rebecca is, and how Raymond ended up the way he did, will get you this one. I got it on my 5th shift with only 3/5 endings. But some people took a lot longer.

You'll get this one after you've burned 50 bodies. Settle in.

you'll get this one after you've embalmed 100 bodies. woo.

Various Haunts

  • If you trigger some of Rebecca's scenes but don't have the required items you'll see some haunts where she burns
  • Your grandmother will come outside and scream at you to cut yourself

Changes and Updates
If I need to clarify, add any fixes, or updates... I'll put the info here!

The game has been updated with a few more achievements. I do not have the time to play through and update as I am a new mom. However, I'd be happy to collab with someone. Leave me a comment if you'd like to contribute.

New content added into the new Definitive Edition just released on the 2nd! I'm not the master of remembering of taking notes but if anything good comes up (I'll not drop spoilers) I'll let you all know if it is worth writing home about. Knowing this game, I'm sure it will be good for sure!

A full list is also available by just checking the global achievements on steam...that is not what I meant in the comment. What you replied with is a link to another guide listing the achievements and a rough description for them. Since you took the effort to make the whole guide (which was useful), would have been better in my opinion to write the name of the achievement next to the corresponding icon (which starts the description of how to get the achievement). So in case somebody is looking for a specific achievement, you don't have to know the icon and hunt it in your guide by scrolling till you find it, but just search and find the corresponding text (input achievement name).
RainaMermaid  [author] 23 Apr, 2024 @ 4:08pm
@rogermorse the name of every achievement is right there. The very first sentence under "Achievement master list" click it and there's your fully named list.
rogermorse 21 Apr, 2024 @ 3:34am
I appreciate the effort but what kind of achievements guide does NOT include the names of the achievements...but only the icons...really weird...
