The need to know on Firefall's backstory. Not a comprehensive guide, but you'll be able to impress friends and keep yourself from getting bull sh*tted in zone chat.

Backstory
What happened before you jump ingame:
  • Astroid carrying Crystite crashes into Earth in 2177. This event is called the Firefall.
  • Resulting nine year winter that causes large nations, including the US, to fall.
  • Mankind discovers that Crystite is a powerful power source and rebuilds.
  • The Accord is formed to unify mankind and to keep people from fighting over Crystite.
  • This makes the Bandits mad, they're a secondary enemy.
  • More Crystite is found on Alpha Prime, a star system in Alph Centari, ships sent to get more.
  • Ships accidentally carry bugs (e.g. Arhanas) to Earth, a secondary enemy.
  • The Arclight, a warship that can bend space to travel faster than light, is built.
  • The purpose of the Arclight was to keep colonist at Alpha Prime in check.
  • On its first attempt to bend space, the Arclight rips a hole in space and lets the Melding through.
  • The Arclight crashes outside of Fortaleza, Brazil. This is where the game takes place.
  • The Melding is an energy storm that covers most of Earth. It mutates life.
  • The Chosen, transformed humans, emerge from the Melding, they're the main enemy.
  • The game starts four years after the Melding emerges in 2237. It's the end of the world.
  • You're a mercinary working for The Accord as part the ARES Initiative.

I have been playing Firefall for days not really knowing anything about it. I just downloaded and starting playing bits and pieces here and there. This has really shed some light on what this game is really about. Thank you!

Wow, I didn't thinkg they'd put that much effort into a backstory, thanks for the link
In game it leads you to believe that melded humans become carcasses, apparently that's not it though
Maybe that's what happens to some of them? Or maybe only the weak?
Anyway, you tought me a thing or two with this guide

nice guide, one correction though
the chosen are not transformed humans, but the inhabitants of the dimension the melding came from.

i still say that we are all clones of the oringal ares 35 and with instant plastic surgery and body modifaction, we can choose who our clones want to be like we are different people.
