Torga [Definitive Edition]

The keeper of the frozen sanctuary, herding bystanders in hopes to reduce as many casualties as possible. Enough was enough, he is ready for battle... but this time definitively

Torga had a lot of issues throughout their development and onward, first they had a meter gimmick that tied their moves together, then Nspecial lost its functionality as a way to build meter, then they lost their gimmick altogether. Not to mention how frustrating it was for players due to core issues with their kit, weight, killpower, etc. that if changed could throw off their whole balance.

Hopefully this will rectify those issues and bring about a better light for the character and invite more players to enjoy what I believe Torga is truly about

Specials

Nspecial (Water Bomb)

Water bomb is now attached to their Nspecial, originally their Uspecial now translated to their Nspecial as well as offering more utility in every aspect. Their water bomb is now their gimmick, it guides Torga's gameplay and it can not be understated how important it is to move, protect, and convert off of it. Hitting water bomb will launch it in that respective direction, dealing more than 8 damage total will cause that bomb to become a strong multi-hit that is fantastic for followups. All of Torga's specials interact with water bomb in unique and interesting ways allowing for easy manipulation to position and take advantage of your water bomb.

Fspecial (Hurricane Kick)

Fspecial, or Hurricane Kick, allows Torga to lurch forward before dealing a strong blow with his leg. The force created from the kick along the water projected from it creates a mighty hurricane that flies forward. The hurricane will trap opponents allowing Torga to come in for the finishing blow. Though, this does not come without risk, parrying hurricane will put Torga in parry lag aswell as the ability to destroy hurricane with any hitbox to prevent Torga from setting up. Skillfully placing and protecting this hurricane will be your lifeline when offstage and during combos.

Dspecial (Water Shield)

Torga is no longer equiped with their saw blade, instead he has learned that a great defense is the best offense. This shield works similarly to other focus attack-based moves, after one hit you will be vulnerable to any hitbox that comes after. An exception, however, being projectiles from the front; The water shield is not just for show, it will eliminate incoming basic projectiles making it great for dealing with pressure from a distance. However, unlike other focus attacks, there is no attack part of this move. Your only options after being hit are to dash away or cancel the move. You may be asking yourself: "That sounds awful", and you would be correct... if that was all it did. While Water Shield is deployed, your hurricane and water bomb will be locked in place. Dashing by pressing Shield and a direction will cause whatever objects that are effected by your Dspecial to be flung in that direction.

Uspecial (Water-port / Bubble Pop)

If a water bomb is present on stage, Torga will vanish into bubbles and reappear above that bomb. With a powerful leap he stomps the bomb under him to the depths beneath. Alternatively, Torga can hold Shield to cancel the teleport halfway and feign his recovery. However, in the unfortunate situation that Torga does not have a water bomb, he can do weak leap called "Bubble Pop". Torga forms some bubbles beneath his feet before attempting to jump off of them. This, however, does not work very well and is lackluster in height. However, the splash caused by the bubbles creates enough velocity to have a weak meteor effect on any unlucky soul to be hit by it

Other Moves

Dattack (Somersault Axe-kick)

A power rolling leap into a downwards axe-kick, upon landing a massive eruption of water splashes from his foot. A devastating move and one to surely look out for

Fstrong (Water Geyser)

Torga slams his hands to the floor, from the ground infront of him forms a mighty geyser. Unlike other Fstrongs, this move sends upwards and can put foes in a fearsome position nobody would envy

Ustrong (Splash Kick)

Contrary to the name, Torga only uses only the power of his trained body to propel himself upwards accompanied by a powerful strike with his leg sending opponents sky-high. The vertical distance on this move is unmatched and is one for the history books as far as combo-enders. This does come with some limitations, one being the horizontal coverage. This move is very slim and can hardly hit opponents infront of him, let alone behind him. When you see a Torga eventually whiff this move, that's when you strike due to this move's incredibly long whifflag. On hit, this move can allow for great followups, but one mistake and you are gonna be in a full 37 Frames of endlag, disregarding the startup and active parts of the move

Uair (Twin Kicks)

A staple for Torga regardless of incarnation. One of Torga's earlier learned techniques in his sanctuary, it has been refined to perfection. Torga throws up his first leg to stun the opponent while building power into his second kick for a powerful strike sending the opponent straight to the blast-zone

Nair (Forceful Splash)

Similar to Greninja's Nair, this move is a water splash that surrounds Torga sending the opponent upwards. This tool can be incredible for combos and is versatile in many scenarios. Pressing Attack after the large splash allows torga to take the water bands on his wrists and slash them out to his sides for a second attack. This move sends more horizontal and can be great for sending opponents high offstage.

One other thing is that for balancing, his up air seems too strong for how fast it is and its range. It's probably not so much the move itself and more that Torga's double jump lets him hit opponents who are close to the top blast zone. Could use a bit of a knockback growth nerf.

This has gotta be one of the best characters on the workshop, period. His animations and design are excellent, the original stage and music are just as good, and his move set is awesome. So much skill expression and room for creativity, not to mention looks cool. If he were out earlier, I'm pretty sure he would've made it into the official game instead of Hodan, and I say that as someone who mains him.

Also on Jelly Bean's comment about the shield, while there needs to be visual clarity on what it's for a kite shield does feel out of place on Torga thematically. Perhaps have the shield look like a turtle shell instead?

jelly bean, Torga has 2 hud elements which is hardly too many. If u hit waterbomb the meter rises faster so taking that away from the player would be an awful idea. Torga does infact flash the color of his water when his bomb refills. Making it so that Torga can only have 1 thing out at a time is, respectfully, an incredible poor idea. The whole idea for the character is using his moves in tandem. I will also not be removing the water shield icon because it is important for the player to know when they have that option as it is very important for getting out of dodge. Watershield goes on longer cooldown if it is destroyed while you are using the move so it would be incredibly inconsistent for the player to use it without any obvious notification such as a hud element. Finally, the shield has genuine practicality as it blocks projectiles from the front. It is immediately recognizable for the player so they immediately know what the move is for when they see a shield.

MrCthulhu, the hitbox on Fair is gone when smear goes away, there are many moves in basecast that follow this logic aswell (Etalus Fair, Forsburn Fair, etc.). The leg has an outline when the hitbox is gone, that is a good way to tell. I think it may be just a timing issue on your end, from everyone else I have heard no complaints about people not being able to tell when the hitbox goes away. However if it ends up being an issue I will look into it
