Spacesuit Helmet:
This a permanently equipped item. Many players dislike its restricted peripheral vision. Actually that's quite useful as an early warning HUD about your exposure to the elements:
  • Frosted edges mean you're getting colder and maybe heading towards hypothermia
  • Water droplets mean you're wet and likewise at risk of hypothermia
  • Red edges mean you're getting hotter and are at risk of overheating
Teleporter:
  • Used to reach difficult areas otherwise too high or too restricted to access normally.
  • Good for descending from heights quickly and safely (especially for huge ladders)
  • Can be used to escape surface weather anomalies (provided you remembered leave its target disc back at base camp before you headed out).
  • Note that its range can be increased by jumping or running while launching its target disc
Lit Oiled Torch:
  • Never burns out, so it is generally a better option than the flashlight.
  • Provides some ambient heat (about +15 degrees C). So it's preferred in cold conditions.
  • Dropped on the ground it remains lit, so you can see where you're aiming the teleporter.
  • Don't go swimming with it equipped or you will easily extinguish it (doh!)
  • Use it to light any candles you come across. That way you can relight your torch if necessary.
  • Use it to light campfires to warm up and dry out.
Flashlight
  • Does not emit heat. So it's the preferred light source in hot conditions to avoid overheating.
  • Not always the best for exploration - has a narrow beam and washes out the colours.
  • Its battery loses charge with use. But solar recharges when by equipped in sunlight.
  • Battery time is up-gradable when better batteries are found
Roots
  • Can be sometimes found lying about, or else easily found and cut from cave walls.
  • When lit on the ground provides some warmth and will help you dry out.
  • Adding more roots to a fire increases its heat output
Sharpened Rock
  • Useful for opening food cans
  • Useful for cutting roots
  • Heavy enough to hold down pressure-plates
  • Welcome back to the stone age
Sledge Hammer
  • Useful for opening food cans (don't try this at home)
  • Can demolish some walls
Sword
  • Useful for opening food cans
  • Useful for cutting roots
  • Essential as a lever for operating some alien mechanisms.

Oh no, not your party trick again Zeo, where you eat the 5 cans of beans then use the lit torch!

Hey, I showed up to the party with a lit torch in my pocket and 5 cans of beans. Anyone got a sword?

Yeah, just us old space-worn explorers left now

It's a bit of a niche game, not for the faint of heart if you go explore optional caves.
I feel like a wine "connoisseur" able to appreciate this game in all its details :-)

I guess it's also a bit old now.
