JR East E001 Train Suite

It is a top-class cruise-style sleeper train operated by JR East. It will run on May 1, 2017. Different from the previous sleeper trains of JR East, this train is sold as a package tour, not just a ticket.

The type of the Four Season Island train is "E001". There are 10 cars in total, and the applicable gauge is 1067mm. It adopts a power decentralized design. Among them, there are 6 cars with traction motors in the 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10 cars. The other 4 sections are trailers without traction power. There are pantographs on the roofs of cars 2, 3, 8 and 9, which can accept 1500 volts direct current, 20000 volts 50/60 Hz dual-frequency alternating current and 25000 volts 50 Hz alternating current on the Strait Line. The only on-line intermodal train that can enter the Tsugaru Strait Line.
The traction motor control method is VVVF. In order to travel in non-electrified areas, cars 1 and 10 are equipped with diesel generators, and the electricity generated is used for traction, lighting, air conditioning and other service facilities in the car. There are four types of train security devices: DS-ATC, ATS-P, ATS-Ps and ATS-DN.
The compartments are connected by tightly connected couplers and equipped with anti-falling baffles. Both ends of the car are traditional automatic couplers, which can be connected with electric locomotives or diesel locomotives. Kawasaki Heavy Industries undertook to build seven of the carriages made of aluminum alloy; the Comprehensive Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd. undertook to build three carriages made of stainless steel.
The exterior color of the train is golden, the front of the observation car and the door of the living room are black, and the windows are designed with the image of trees to harmonize with the natural landscape.
The E001 tandem vehicle won the Good Design Award from the Japan Design Promotion Association in 2017.
Lookout car
The 1st and 10th cars are observation cars, the car numbers are E001-1 and E001-10, the front end of the car is a large area windshield, which is divided into two parts, the two glass is a special convex shape, the headlight and The taillights are mounted on the left and right sides, and they are all LED lights. The cab is located at the bottom and the observation room at the top. At the rear is the mechanical room, equipped with diesel generators, auxiliary power devices and other electromechanical equipment.

Suite Sleeper car
Cars 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9 are Suite sleeper cars, with car numbers E001-2, 3, 4, 8, and 9. Each carriage has 3 double suites with bathroom facilities, which can accommodate 6 passengers, and the fourth carriage is a wheelchair accessible carriage.

Deluxe suite Sleeper car
The seventh car is the Deluxe suite sleeper car, the car number is E001-7. There are two Deluxe suites in this carriage. One is a two-story mezzanine style, called "Four Seasons Island suite", which is the most expensive room on the Four Seasons Island; the other is a single-story high-floor flat style, which is the second most expensive. s room. Both have bathtubs and toilets, and can accommodate 4 passengers in total. This car does not have a door, and passengers need to get on and off from the door of an adjacent car.

Parlor car
The fifth car is the living room car, the car number is E001-5. This car adopts a double-layer design, but there is still a sense of openness in the car without looking cramped. There are 18 seats for passengers to socialize.

Dining car
The sixth car is a dining car, the car number is E001-6. This carriage is designed with double floors, with the dining room and kitchen on the upper floor, and the use of the lower floor has not yet been disclosed. There are 18 seats and dining tables.
