Journey Reimagined / ReShade Guide
By queasy
Recently I discovered the ReShade tool and I must say it's turned around the way I see game visuals. Completely change your frame of reference for the experience of Journey with a palette swap of colours or change the effects of lighting and dynamic range. The possibilities are pretty endless! I'll show you how to easily install this program and mix up the way you see the game!

What is ReShade & Where to get it?
ReShade is a generic post-processing injector for games and video software.

This software runs in tandem with your game and modifies the visual output of the game itself.
You can tweak lots of settings and play around with cool effects!

Quick Start: Run setup tool > Follow instructions > Close setup tool > Start game > ... > Profit $$$

ReShade itself is actually quite easy to use and mess around with once you try it out.

I personally have had a lot of success and enjoyment playing around with all the various effects and shaders. Journey has ran consistently stable through multiple playthroughs with different shaders active.

...And yes this DOES NOT affect online compatibility. You are only changing the visuals being displayed on your monitor.

Be advised your game crash potential increases with use of this. Remember: LESS is MORE. While testing out different shaders I had Journey completely kill my GPU at one point >_< Try not to get too crazy. But get c r e a t i v e to see what you can discover! Please use at your own risk!
Video guide & Demo
For those who prefer a visual demonstration.

I'm pretty bad at video editing. Pardon the poor quality. Also had to trim it to 15 min, because YT.

JUICY

Installation:
4 shaders are used

Levels.fx
LiquidLens.fx
Technicolor2.fx
Vibrance.fx

BlackPoint has been moved to 40. WhitePoint has been adjusted to 255 on Levels. Your mileage may vary. Any changing of whitepoint causes bleaching for me in the last level.

Liquid Lens is obnoxious stock. Adjusted Brightness to 0.065, saturation to 0.650, Threshold to 0.750, and Flare tint amount to 0.900.

Technicolor2 has been dialed down on the brightness and saturation to a more tame setting of 0.825.

Vibrance is stock setup.

You can download the .txt file at the bottom of the page which has the correct values for shader settings. Once in game select "SweetFX_Settings_b'Journey'_b'JUICY'.txt" in the ReShade menu.

This is hands down my favorite ReShade to experience Journey with. I've made something truly incredible in my eyes. Hopefully you enjoy it too!

5 shaders are used

AdaptiveSharpen.fx
Clarity.fx
LiquidLens.fx
Unsharp.fx
Vibrance.fx

Adaptive Sharpen, Clarity, UnSharp, and Vibrance are all stock setup. Just download them through the ReShade Setup application and you're good to go! (I don't know why Clarity shows up twice and enables twice in ReShade. It hasn't caused me issues, so I roll with it)

Liquid Lens is obnoxious stock. Adjusted Brightness to 0.065, saturation to 0.650, Threshold to 0.750, and Flare tint amount to 0.900. Gaussian blur has also been adjusted to 0.850 size.

You can download the .txt file at the bottom of the page which has the correct values for shader settings. Once in game select "SweetFX_Settings_b'Journey'_b'DAYUM'.txt" in the ReShade menu.

These are just suggestions on what you can do. I recommend you play around and see what cool combos you can come up with! Maybe we'll cross paths on a journey sometime. Safe travels!!!

(adding, having a video form of a visual demonstration of this mod would be very welcome. :Traveler: )

Many thanks, even though I'm honestly more interested if you can sort of recreate "night" variants of levels in ReShade, given Example Shaders in this guide ... or if others had sort of managed to recreate these "night" variants of levels.

There actually is a way to experience the 'night' variants of the levels as seen in the game outro cinematics.

This involves the use of a mod called ME&PAL. I've installed and ran it and it's a really surreal experience to have.

You can do co-op on these levels too, but that involves both players using the mod to access these zones.

I wonder if the ReShade has "Night" setting.
