I have to say, that's the main reason why this game shouldn't have been on Steam. Now that people can access the game's folder, they can cheat at will. In the Microsoft Store version of the game, the ownership is locked by the OS or Trusted or some other thing which you cannot claim ownership over, I know that because I tried when I wanted to add the game as a non-Steam game. There was no possible way to access that folder. So yeah, now that everyone has access to the contents inside that folder, people can cheat and play like butt holes and mess with the leaderboard.
