Spencer 1882/Bannerman 1896 - Shotguns

Spencer 1882:

Some may recognise this 'ere beaut from Bioshock, the Spencer 1882 was the first successful pump-action shotgun in the world.

Christopher Miner Spencer who was best known for his repeating rifle and carbine during the American Civil War - developed the Model 1882 while his company was on it's last legs. The shotgun while being a commercial success - was not enough to save the Spencer Arms Co. from bankruptcy, forcing Spencer to sell his company's assets to one Francis Bannerman VI in 1890.


Bannerman 1896:

After the patent rights were purchased, Bannerman got to work producing Spencer's shotgun under his name with the only change made being the pump's foregrip design.

In 1893, the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. would produce their own pump-shotgun, the 'Winchester 1893' and Bannerman, in response - filed a lawsuit against the company claiming the pump-action designs they produced we're violating the patent he owned.

Bannerman lost the lawsuit in 1897, in which the same year the famous 'Winchester 1897' was designed.



For being an early slide-action design, it's loading mechanism is quite finicky resulting in a slow fire-rate and a lethargic reload time. However it's long barrel and 12 gauge black-powder shells will allow one to hit targets from 50m and smoke up the room while doing it.
