Top B41 Mods to Use for the New and Curious
By Papi Pope
UPDATED - Project Zomboid has come a long way since 2013 when it was first added on Steam. It's come even further with the beautiful modding community that adds endless amount of content to the game. Here are some of the best B41 mods that I don't play without. These mods are lore-friendly, add realistic and/or necessary content to the game. As more mods come out and existing mods improve, this list will be added upon. If you have any suggestions, put them in the comments and I'll look through them!

New Weapons, Tools, and More
Scrap Weapons! - djvirus
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2122265954

Scrap Weapons! adds multiple scrap weaponry to Knox County from scrap shivs to tire iron axes and weaponized stop signs. These weapons have fully fleshed-out models viewable in the inventory as well as on player models. Scrap weapons can be discovered throughout the world on zombies and rare finds and can also be craftable through your crafting menu. The mod also introduces a workbench that can be used to disassemble regular items into scrap for more weapons!

This not a mod I go without. More weapons means an easier time killing the undead! The models are beautiful and fit the theme and style of the game.

Scrap Guns - djvirus
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2125659488

Scrap Guns is another beautiful mod by djvirus and adds scrap guns and bombs into the game. Just like his other mod, this mod includes fleshed out guns and grenades. These guns are craftable in your inventory just like the other mod. Weapons to be crafted include a pump shotgun, pistol, pipe bombs, molotovs, and more!

Firearms - Hyzo
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2256623447

Firearms adds more guns from real life into the game with beautiful fully fleshed-out models just like Scrap Weapons! These guns are findable throughout the world and also have attachments like silencers, slings, bipods, and more.

While I don't use guns unless it's an absolute emergency, having guns with the option of a silencer makes it more worthwhile. Hyzo also includes an extra file when you download the mod called "Firearms Silencer Easy Mode" which reduce the silencer sound even further if you don't like using guns that much like I do.
Quality of Life
Taped TV Shows - Tiax
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2284317690

Taped TV Shows adds exactly what it sounds like - taped VCR shows from Life & Living TV! No more do you have to spawn in and race to a TV to catch the first episode of whatever's on or worry about missing an episode of the Kardashians. These VCR tapes are findable in bookshelves all around the map and sometimes zombies and cover 25 episodes. They add the respective XP gains from the shows as well as reduce stress and boredom.

An absolute godsend. It's literally free XP in your pocket. Now you don't have to focus on basing up and watching TV the first couple days anymore.

Improved Build Menu - Vaileasys
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1969456967

Improved Build Menu redoes the build menu for metalworking and carpentry by cleaning up the UI and color-coding it and tells you what you have versus what's required in the build. It also adds more container capacities, renames objects, and changes around tooltip descriptions. There are also new buildables like doors, floors, and bar elements to add more life and shine to your base.

As someone who loves to build a big base and bunker out, this is a requirement. Basing becomes easier and cleaner.

Better Sorting - ChobitsCrazy
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2313387159

Better Sorting overhauls item categories to go from generic "Item" name to necessary names like "Weapon", "Tool", "Cooking", and more. A small mod but a requirement for newcomers (and veterans) who are overwhelmed by the junk they'll find and unsure what's needed.

Show Skill Up Name - Kaedius
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2312553261

Show Skill Up Name adds a small text box over your player's head whenever you level up to tell you what skill you just increased. No more random banjo to make you look at the skill menu to figure out what you just leveled up. A small change but it is noticeable and helpful.

Simple Add Inventory Pages - RH4DB4
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1946782371

Simple Add Inventory Pages adds another menu in your inventory for unequipable bags and regular bags such as a garbage bag or a backpack in your main inventory. So, if you have a garbage bag full of stuff, you don't have to bring it into your hands to access, just your main inventory. Using containers like these is a little messy but this mod cleans it up nicely and makes it friendlier to use.

Dynamic Traits - Peppercat
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2459400130

Dynamic Traits implements the ability for your character to gain or lose traits overall. Like becoming addicted to smoking if you smoke too much or desensitized as your character continues on in the world. I think the PZ Team has plans in some way to include a game mechanic like this with the erosion mechanic already implemented. So, why wait when Dynamic Traits is already here?
Everything Else
West Point Expansion - ww2commander
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2195155059

West Point Expansion expands upon West Point by adding a whole new city-sized area. The expanded area is a beautiful addition on West Point because the buildings are even livelier and more realistic compared to the existing map setting. In the expansion, there are suburbs, apartments, a hospital, shopping center, and more with even some secrets around the map (like the lair of a serial killer -- or deranged homeless I've found). The expansion includes every necessity of base-game like forage areas, specialized vehicle spawning, correct loot in it's themed locations like firestations, etc. If you're bored of boring Knox County, this is the vacation to hell you need!

ww2commander has also included a lootable map of the expansion downloadable here:

Randomized Starting Gear - planetalgol
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2227889044

Randomized Starting Gear adds a little more to your character when you spawn based on the occupation and traits you've picked. For example, if you're a carpenter, you might spawn with a saw and some nails one time and the next time you'll get just a hammer. Or if you're a firefighter, you might get a full firefighter suit and an axe, or the next time you'll just get a walkie. Planetalgol doesn't provide much info in order for you to figure it out on your own and not ruin the surprise, so I won't say any more besides use this mod to mix up the start of your game a little!

Save Our Station! - Spacew00t
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2398274461&searchtext=

Save Our Station! adds more to the endgame of Project Zomboid. You've found yourself with an impenetrable base, a good garden, and a whole armory enough for a small country. What now? Now is time to take on a mission that will take time, patience, and skills of survivability. Once Knox County's power goes out, you'll have to repair the emergency broadcast system. Figure out the problem and discover the solution. The mod adds new areas to different cities, most notably a weather station that can malfunction and be the main task of your quest. While it adds new areas, it works with most mods that also add new areas like West Point Expansion, Raven Creek, and more.

Aquatsar Yacht Club B41 - iBrRus
https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2392987599

Aquatsar Yacht Club B41 adds boats and yachts! Literal boats! A whole new way of quick and safe travel on the river, good for voyages between the towns and safehouses. How could you not want a yacht??

Make sure to note that all the 'Tsar' mod family items will require the common libraries etc, so peeps don't get pissed. Or better yet, just tell them to read the install requirements.

I completely forgot I had PZ on my other steam profile and decided to try out B41 (with mods) so this list is really helpful.

Maybe consider creating a workshop collection of these mods and link it in the guide? Makes it easier to get to all the mods without having to go forwards and backwards.

Some of these I haven't heard of, but i'm definitely adding them to my game! All these mods sound awesome!

Some of these mods might freak out on your game when you try to add them in mid playthrough like ones that change the map. Smaller mods like Show Up Skill Name and Inventory Pages might not though. Check the individual mod pages to find out for sure.

Can we add this and still keep our current playthrough/save?
