"One thing that is definitely against the player in Banished is the way population and reproduction work. As people age, they stop making children but continue to occupy houses. The only way to stimulate more children is to build more houses while you have young adults. Once you have a large town (1000+ citizens) there's no desire to add more houses, as that would give you more people than you can feed in the space you have. As a result, you get this see-saw effect on the population as the number of children oscillates, so does the working adult population, forcing you to babysit the game to manage who has what jobs."

Wow, the mathematician in me sees that almost perfect P(t)=sin(t)+k line formed by the graph, where P is population, t is time and k is roughly 800.

Also, on a very angry side note, I have 3 trader's posts that I am waiting to give me tools and all they ever have is animals and seed. -.- ALSO, in less than a year I've been ravaged by FIVE plagues.

So after putting 3 blacksmiths next to three different mines producing coal, I have come to the conclusion that there is a problem with supplies being prioritised. :( FOr a year I watched all three blacksmiths sit there each with iron and wood, but no coal, despite the stock having over 50, ALL of which was right next to them, in arm's reach. There are seriously a lot of things that need to be solved with use of resources. I'm really frustrated. : / I mean, like I said, no tools = no firewood = no tools = no clothes = more consumption of firewood = NEVER ENOUGH TOOLS = no food = slow but sure death of town.

They are very greedy with the coal to heat their houses, you have to make sure the blacksmiths are right next to the coal mines and no houses or markets are neatby, otherwise they go and steal it. I do not believe there is a way to 'flatten out' this see-saw effect.

(Cont'd) I'm definitely having production problems though. Mainly to do with firewood use which affects tools (coal = no steel = no tools) which affects food and tool production even more. It's a mess.

I've definitely experienced this problem in both of my towns (both over 1000). I never mandaged to fix it though. I guess I never noticed the see-saw to realize it was "natural". Luckily my food stores are crazy high... just keep building? D:

Of course. We are speaking of different (time)frames. I as a noob with <250 citizens am affected differently. So, end of nomads discourse. :)

You can clearly see the effect the nomads had on the population rise/decline here - absolutely nothing over enough time.

I guess nomads ALWAYS do more "harm" if you haven't managed to get incredibly much food already: The ecosystem is sensitive all the time. The baby booms afterwards mean only trouble. I'm new to the ganme yet have found that little time after taking up nomads (no matter how well-prepared I assumed to be)I will face starvation which later calms to a point exactly where "normal" pop. growth would have brought me to :D

Yep. They tend to do more harm than good at this size of city though. They pump up the uneducated which cuts in to production in unpredictable ways.
