Intro
Are you a baby pyro,do the other pyros laugh at you,and you want to be a full grown, respected, psycho arsonist? This guide will give you some tips on becoming a quality pyro, the sections below will show you primary weapons, and which one I think works best, the same for secondary and melee weapons. The sections on primary, secondary, and melee have a lot of stats which may seem boring, feel free to skip to the bottom of the tab to see the 'My Recommendation' bullet point and see what I think works best. Then there is a miscellaneous category, which is hats and miscellaneous items. Then you have the 'Combat' category, which is the most in-depth part of the guide,it has many tips, and a guide to dealing with every class.
Primary
  • Stock Flame Thrower: Ammo-200
    Max Damage-153/Per Second
    Max Critical Damage-460/Per Second
    AfterBurn Damage-6/Per Second/Over Ten Seconds
    Compression Blast-Yes/20 Ammo

  • BackBurner: Ammo-200
    Max Damage-153/Per Second
    Max Critical Damage-460/Per Second
    AfterBurn Damage-6/Per Second/Over Ten Seconds
    Compression Blast-Yes/50 Ammo
Guaranteed Critical Hits when attacking from behind
    No Random Critical Hits
  • Degreaser:Ammo-200
    Max Critical Damage-460/Per Second
AfterBurn Damage- 4/Per Second/Over Ten Seconds
    Compression Blast-Yes/20 Ammo
    65% faster weapon switch
    10% Less Damage
  • Phlogistinator:Ammo-200
    Max Damage-139/Per Second
    Max Critical Damage-418/Per Second
    AfterBurn Damage-6/Per Second/Over Ten Seconds
    Compression Blast-No
    No Random Critical Hits
    Builds The 'Mmmph' Meter
  • Rainblower: Ammo-200
    Max Damage-153/Per Second
    Max Critical Damage-460/Per Second
    AfterBurn Damage-6/Per Second/Over Ten Seconds
    Compression Blast-Yes/20 Ammo

  • My Recommendation: I personally use the stock flamethrower, all different models will have their perks but will also come with equal downfalls that pose a problem,I recommend the stock flamethrower, however the degreaser is a close second, the degreaser can be paired with the axtinguisher to cause maximum damage at close range, this is because, the axestinguisher does critical hits to an enemy on fire and the degreaser has a 65% faster weapon switch, meaning you can get in close, set them on fire and quickly switch to your melee for a critical hit.
Secondary
  • Shotgun: Ammo-6/32
    Max Damage-60
    Max Critical Damage-180

  • Reserve Shooter: Ammo-3/32
    Max Damage-60
    Max Critical Damage-180
    15% Faster weapon switch
    Mini-Crits Airborne Targets,for 3 seconds after switch

  • Flare Gun: Ammo-1/16
    Base Damage-30
    Base Critical Damage-90
    AfterBurn-6/Per Second/10 Seconds

  • Detonator: Ammo-1/16
    Base Damage-30
    Base Critical Damage-90
    AfterBurn-6/Per Second/Ten Seconds
Can Detonate Flare in flight,Causing damage to nearby players

  • ManMelter: Ammo-1/Unlimited
    Base Damage-30
    Base Critical Damage-90
    AfterBurn-6/Per Second/10 Seconds
Can Extinguish teammates, doing so stores one critical hit
    50% Faster Projectile Speed
    20% Slower Firing Rate
    No Random Critical Hits

  • Scorch Shot: Ammo-1/16
    Base Damage-15
    Base Critical Damage-45
    AfterBurn-6/Per Second/10 Seconds
    Knocks Back Targets
Ignites enemies in a small radius

  • My Recommendation: I personally use 'The Scorch shot',although it does have reduced damage being on fire will always send the enemy scrambling for a health pack, getting them off the battlefield, which is always good.It is extremely useful in Payload/Payload Race matches because of its knock back,it can knock an enemy out of the carts radius while keeping you at a safe distance.'The Reserve Shooter" would be my other option,it is a shotgun and not a flare gun, meaning you won't be getting any AfterBurn damage, but this weapon is helpful when facing enemy pyros, who do not burn like other classes, because they take dramatically reduced fire damage, not fighting them with fire is very helpful,it also has guaranteed Mini Crits against airborne enemies,so if your using one of the suggested primaries with air blast, you can blast them into the air and utilizing your 15% faster weapon switch shoot them in the air for guaranteed Mini Crits.
Melee
They're are a tremendous amount of melee weapons,to many for me to go through and type out all the stats(and to many for you to want to read),but I will post my favorites and recommendations below, however you can look at the full list by clicking here
  • Axtinguisher/Postal Pummeler: Ammo-N/A
    Max Damage-33
    Max Critical Damage-195
Deals 50% less damage on non-burning targets
Deals Guaranteed Critical hits against burning enemies

  • The PowerJack: Ammo-N/A
    Max Damage-65
    Max Critical Damage-195
    15% Faster Moving Speed
On kill restores 75 points of health (can over heal)
    Raises Damage Vulnerability by 20%

  • Backscratcher: Ammo-N/A
    Max Damage-82
    Max Critical Damage-244
50% Extra health from health packs
75% less health from media-gun or dispenser

  • Neon Annihilator: Ammo-N/A
    Max Damage-52
    Max Critical Damage-156
Guaranteed Critical Hits against wet enemies
    Able to remove Electro-Sappers
    No Random Critical Hits

  • My Recommendation: My primary recommendation is the Axtinguisher (or Postal Pummeler,Same Stats) its very useful because of its guaranteed critical hits against burning players, when in close quarters with an enemy you can set them on fire and switch to your melee for a guaranteed critical hit.My second recommendation is 'The Backscratcher' because of its increased damage, and you get 50% more health from health packs, the downfall to this though is taking a whopping 75% less health gain from medics and dispensers.
Miscellaneous Items
This will be a very short section, mainly because my personal opinions on hats and other miscellaneous items is that they aren't very necessary,I like to focus more on the gameplay, but if you haven't already you'll see that other players judge your skill based off how your character looks,so you have to look cool to be taken seriously,my pyro is rocking 'The Waxy Way Finder' for his hat,'The Professor Specs' as a first miscellaneous, and 'The Scoot Suit' as his second miscellaneous. His picture will be attached at the bottom, but point being, make your character look nice to be taken seriously, you can trade for hats and miscellaneousness,a good website for trading is TF2 Outpost, visit it by clicking here[www.tf2outpost.com] or if you want them quicker and are willing to spend money you can visit the Team fortress shop by clicking here.

Combat
This Tab will have tips on Combat, staying alive, how to deal with certain classes, etc.
    -Doing Maximum Damage
  • In order to do Maximum Damage as a pyro, you will want to stay moving, know the 'High-Traffic' parts of a map and run around these areas.
  • The optimum place to fight is in close quarters so being in a narrow area is helpful.
  • If an enemy is getting close to you use your alternate fire to AirBlast them back.

    -Staying Alive
  • Know how to pick you battles,if you see something like a heavy backed up by a medic, don't go in without teammates, its suicide.
  • Its hard to remember to do,but after a while you'll do it without thinking,if you know there are snipers around, try to walk in a unpredictable bee line form, your a prime target for snipers.
  • Try not to get yourself in any 'long-range' battles, your flamethrower is a very short range weapon, and the flare guns reload time, especially after every shot, isn't practical for a long range battle, even if you choose the shotgun as your secondary its damage is greatly reduced at even medium range.
  • If your in danger, run somewhere around a corner, your enemy will usually chase you,and when they come around the corner, they'll be in close range with your flamethrower.

    -General Tips
  • Never 'camp' at the enemy spawn, this will always get people mad and its worse with the pyro.
  • Spy-check,this means spraying teammates (sometimes even just the air) with a quick flame, which will ignite any spies, your teammates will thank you.
  • If your fighting an enemy with the same or slower speed try to walk with them and hold the flame on them.
  • AirBlast burning teammates to extinguish them. (to many pyros forget how helpful this can be)
  • If its close enough to a corner,or other protected area you can usually take down a mini-sentry and still have significant health left.

    -Dealing with all classes
  • Scout-The scout is a fast moving class, but with low health, never try to chase down a scout.Scouts need to be at close range to do any significant damage,so they will often run right at you,hit them with your flamethrower and their low health combined with AfterBurn will take care of the rest.
  • Soldier-Soldiers are basic to take down at close range, but can be dealt with at longer ranges using AirBlast. Most soldiers aren't smart enough not to shoot at you with rockets, you can AirBlast these rockets right back and deal damage to them and any of their surrounding teammates.
  • Pyro-Enemie pyros will not burn like other teammates, you should try to avoid them, even if you are using the shotgun, its dangerous and your chances of death are bigger than with most other classes, but if you have to fight a enemy pyro, use your shotgun if you have one equipped,if neither of you do than it ends up being a matter of who can hold the flame the longest, try to AirBlast them back when they are doing to much damage. The 'Axestinguisher' isn't helpful here but if you are using 'The BackScratcher' try to melee them.
  • Demoman-The Demo will usually try to shoot his grenade launcher at you,if you hit these with an AirBlast they will turn your team color and damage him. This usually can't kill a demo, they are usually smart enough that after they take damage from they're own shots the first time they will run for a health pack, you can choose to pursue them or let them leave.Watch out for a demo using the charge n' targe, they won't take any AfterBurn damage.
  • Heavy-The heavies are a class to be feared, they are slow, but have high health, meaning unlike other classes who scramble for health, the heavy will usually be confident enough to try to fight you while taking AfterBurn damage, resulting in you dying and most of the time them having enough time to get health and survive.Refrain from attacking them without backup, especially if they are accompanied by a medic.
  • Engineer-The engineer himself isn't much to fear,if you encounter a 'combat engie' its usually no problem to take him down, provided he doesn't have any revenge crits stored up.Although if you encounter a engie who is protecting his buildings, its best to stay away,a sentry will make quick work of you and your short range weapons.
  • Medic-If you see a 'combat medic' they're basic to take down, health is nothing special and they don't move much faster than you,but a medic is usually attached to another class via media-gun,these are usually bigger classes like the heavy, its best to stay away from a medic healing a teammate unless you have backup.
  • Sniper-They're are two types of snipers, both are easy to out-smart,the first is the smarter sniper, who uses a rifle in a high place, use your bee-line motion discussed earlier to avoid them, but if you don't think they're looking at you and you want to help the team out,use you flare gun if you have it equipped and try to hit them, they have low health and will scramble for spawn,or a health pack, this will allow classes like the heavy to make it through without fear while he's gone. The second type is usually using a huntsman, and running around on the battlefield, very little people can actually use the huntsman, run at them,zig-zaging because if you don't your dead, and set them ablaze with your flamethrower.
  • Spy-The smart spy is cloaked, and not moving around, these spies are hard to find but after awhile of playing maps you'll get to know where spies hide, when you walk by one of these places send a quick blast of fire and see if you catch a spy in wait. The not so smart spies are disguised as one of your teammates, they're are was signs to see who a spy is,if someone is staying behind everyone, spy check em',if one of your teammates is going tward spawn with high health, spy check em',lastly and most obviously, spies take on the name of one of your team members when they disguise,so if they have your username, burn em'

When I am on the battlefield, I stop sometimes to realize what I need to do and what the situation is, after a while will I just correspond with everything?
