DISTRAINT 2 Full Walkthrough / Achievements Guide

A wholly comprehensive guide for gameplay and 100% achievements. This will describe the bare bones of gameplay needed to achieve everything, but please - I encourage you to interact more with your environment!

I was lucky enough to be one of the testers / English proofer for DISTRAINT 2. I hope that you will enjoy the game as much as I have. If anything isn't clear / you're still stuck - please, don't hesitate to ask.

Gameplay Overview
This game is pretty simple controls-wise to play.

Keyboard:
- Use A and D to move left and right. These will be your main movement keys.
- Hold Shift with A or D to run left or right. This will speed up your movement.
- To bring up your inventory when you're away from an interactable object, press Space.
- To interact with objects or people, to move dialogue along, and to select something in the menu, use E.
- Shift is also used to exit puzzles.

Remember - you can rebind the keys to whatever you want to use!

This game is also controller friendly (but I don't own enough different controllers to give a comprehensive enough guide on that, so comment below if you're really stuck!).
Achievements Overview
There are a total of nine achievements in this game.

Storyline Achievements
These are unavoidable, gained simply by playing through the game from beginning to end.

Complete the Prologue
Complete the Prologue.
Obtained upon completion of the prologue.

Complete Chapter One
Complete Chapter One.
Obtained upon completion of the first chapter.

Complete Chapter Two
Complete Chapter Two.
Obtained upon completion of the second chapter.

Complete Chapter Three
Complete Chapter Three.
Obtained upon completion of the third chapter.

Complete the Epilogue
Complete the Epilogue.
Obtained upon completion of the epilogue.

Additional Achievements
These are easily missed, and you should keep an eye out especially for them.

Failure
Fail (die) in the game.
Note: this can be gained at any point in the game. However, in this guide I outline an opportunity to gain this achievement whilst wasting little time / game progress.

Catch of the Century
Get at least five fishes.
Note: this is found in Chapter Two: Loss.
Wait until after dark to continue fishing before returning to the jetty.

LIGHT ERROR
Find the dancing bosses.
Note: this is found in Chapter Two: Loss.
Hold onto the light bulb until you go beneath the altar, walk as far left as possible, and use on the empty lampstand.

Out of My Way!
Find the usher.
Note: this is found in Chapter Three: Forgiveness.
Prematurely complete the reception puzzle before using the syringe, and the door will now be blocked by an 'usher' instead of bars.

Prologue: Reason
Intro
- Walk around and follow action tutorial.
- After talking to Reason, walk to the far right.
- Knock on the farthest door.
- Wait for the Prices to disappear, then enter into The Red Gaze - Part One.

The First Puzzle
- Take the second door into Warmth and Coldness.
- Walk right and enter into the Not-So-Poetic Bathroom.
- Interact with the shower, to gain the Rusty Pipe.
- Leave and use the Rusty Pipe on the fireplace.
- Return to the bathroom and use the Washer Dial on the washing machine.
- Rotate the dial clockwise and anti-clockwise to complete the puzzle. See below for the solution.
- Hide in the closet.
- Examine the washing machine and gain an Ice Cube.

Meeting Greed
- Return to Warmth and Coldness
- Place the Ice Cube in the fireplace.
- Use the Rusty Pipe on the fireplace to extricate the contents of the cube
- Return to The Red Gaze - Part One and use the Key on the marked door; enter.
- Walk as far right as possible, then turn left; Greed should appear.
- Talk to Greed.
- Once Greed disappears, walk towards the door.

The Second Puzzle
- Double-back on yourself and use the Rusty Pipe on the circle upon the wall.
- Exit and return to Warmth and Coldness.
- Enter the door to the left of the fireplace.
- Move the couch
- Use the Ring on the wooden thing behind the couch, and complete the puzzle. See below for the solution.
- Exit and examine the empty fireplace.
- Wait for Fear to 'catch' you.

Achievement
Complete the Prologue Complete the Prologue.
Chapter One: Agony
Delusion
- Walk right and examine the noticeboard.
- Continue right until the save point, then turn back; Fear should speak to you.
- Walk left until Fear speaks again.
- Examine the red telephone box.
- Walk left and talk to Price's parents.

Hope's Domain
- Walk right until you see the house, and then examine.
- Continue right until the shed. Interact with the toolbox, and pick up the Hammer and Nails.
- Return to the beginning and use the sawbench, gaining a Plank.
- Use the Plank on the gap in the fence.
- Use the Hammer and Nails on the fence.
- Return to the house, and then talk to Reason.
- Enter the house.

Tricking the Trickster
- Leave The Struggle.
- Walk past the moustached man (Mr. Blackwell).
- Enter Room 24, and talk to the old man on the couch for his Puzzle.
- Give the Puzzle to Blackwell.
- Enter Room 22 and hide in the closet.
- Examine the safe.
*** NOTE: Blackwell won't have finished his puzzle until you've done the next step ***
- Enter Room 26 and examine the green memory orb.
- Walk right and left repeatedly, triggering Fear's presence.
- Exit the room, and return to Blackwell.
- Return the Puzzle to the old man in Room 24.

Movie Buff
- Go through the first door on the right.
- Examine the space to the left of the door, and the television should turn on.
- Examine the television. Note the order in which four images appear.
- Walk right and exit through the door.
- Walk left and exit through the empty doorway.
- Walk right until Reason appears.
- Pick up the Film Reel that dropped from the wall.
- Take it back into Editing the Past, and use the Film Reel at the cutting desk.
- Insert the images in the order as shown on the television adjacent. Here is the end result:
- Exit through the door on the far right.
- Use the Film Reel on the machine in the middle of the map.
- Talk to Comfort, and obtain a bottle Cap.
- Walk through the empty doorway, back to Beyond the Door.
- Use both the Cap and the Film Reel on the cinematic projector.
- Exit through the new door.

Achievement
Complete Chapter One Complete Chapter One.
Chapter Two: Loss
Hope's Domain
- Row to the left, and follow the tutorial for catching fish.
- Continue left, and catch a second fish. Wait for 45-50 seconds after this fish.
- After the woman's phone call wait until dark, like so:
- Cast the fishing line at random and catch 3 more fish.
Achievement
Catch of the Century Get at least five fishes.
- Row back to the pier.

Difficult Doors
- Walk left, continuing through the cabin and beyond, until you reach the house.
- Examine the door puzzle. This is a simple slide-jigsaw puzzle. If you [SHIFT] out of the puzzle, it should reset the pieces. I've labelled the original pieces as follows:
This can be completed in ten moves. Move the labelled pieces in the following order:
C2 up > C1 right > B1 down > A1 down > A2 left > A3 left > A4 left > B4 up > B3 right > C3 up
It should end up looking like so:
- Walk right and examine the green memory orb, which appears shortly after finishing the puzzle.
- Return to the shed and open the safe tied with a ribbon, gaining a Puzzle Piece.
- Use the Puzzle Piece on the door puzzle.
- Enter into The Grandfather Clock.

An Electrician's Nightmare
- Walk left and enter through the open doorway into Four Ways.
- Enter through the door on the right into The Red Gaze - Part Four.
- Examine the light source and take the Bulb.
- Exit and return to The Grandfather Clock.
- Walk right and go through the final door.
- Use the Bulb on the empty lampstand.
- Examine the hole behind the couch, and enter.
- Interact with the sideboard desk. Rotate the puzzle pieces to form the picture of an anchor. On each tile I've written the number of times you need to rotate it in order to form the picture if you get stuck!
And this is what it should look like when completed:
- Once you have the Pendulum, exit.
- Take the Bulb and exit again.
- Use the Pendulum on the grandfather clock.
- Walk right and enter through the door that appears.
- Use the Bulb on the empty lampstand.
- Examine the fuse box to the right and take the Fuse
- Take the Bulb and leave after talking to Greed.
This is now the perfect opportunity to get Achievement: Failure. - Save the game now. - Walk left, and then let Fear's creature catch you.
Achievement
Failure Fail at the game.
- Proceed through the Continue door.
- Hide in the closet.
- Once Fear's creature leaves, return to Four Ways.
- Walk left and enter through the empty doorway into I Need Comfort.
- Use the Bulb on the empty lampstand to the left of the doorway.
- Put the Fuse in the fuse box.
- Go up the ladder and interact with the green memory orb.

Nightmare Elephant
- Try to leave through the bedroom door.
- Pick up the bear, Mr. Armstrong, and put him in the box.
- Pick up the elephant, Mr. Snoutty, and try to put him in the box.
- Hide Mr. Snoutty in the circus tent.
- Try to leave the bedroom again.
- Exit the attic, and take the Bulb.
- Exit through the open doorway into Four Ways and enter through the bathroom / utility room door on the left.
- Examine the circus tent behind the couch.
- Pick up Mr. Snoutty and exit.
- Go through the first open doorway and exit the house by walking to the far right.
- Place Mr. Snoutty on the altar.
- Enter underground.

Not My Cup of Coffee
- Walk as far left as possible.
- Use the Bulb on the empty lampstand.
Achievement
LIGHT ERROR Find the dancing bosses.
- Take the Bulb.
- Walk right until you reach the café.
- Sit on the stool.
Achievement
Complete Chapter Two Complete Chapter Two.
Chapter Three: Forgiveness
Hope's Domain
- Walk right and interact with the beer barrel.
- Walk left and talk to Mr. Tailor's dog.
- Walk right and talk to Reason.
- Walk left and talk to Charlie, and receive the Letter
- Continue walking left until the woman appears, then talk to her.

A Not-So-Caring Home
- Walk right and examine the hole behind the couch.
- Interact with the TV puzzle. The aim is to rotate and resize two parts of a larger image to make a full and complete picture - here it's a rose. The two sets of dials control one portion each.
Top image: rotate one time, shrink one time.
Bottom image: rotate two times, increase two times.
- Exit and enter through the double doors into Her Wheelchair.

A Musical Necromancy
- Walk right and examine the wheelchair, obtaining a Crank.
- Enter the door to the left of the wheelchair.
- Use the Crank on the machine to the left of the red curtains. The numbers should read 649.
- When you try the first time to leave, Reason should appear. Talk to him, then exit.
- Use the code 649 to enter through the keypad-locked door on the far right.
- Examine the machine and turn the Reception area light green.
- Exit, walk left and hide in the closet from Fear's creature.
- Enter the reception area.
- Examine the red first aid box on the wall, taking a Syringe.
Here you can earn the final optional Achievement: Out of My Way!, by completing the wall puzzle in the reception area BEFORE using the Syringe in the music room. See the puzzle solution below, but bear in mind you will still need to proceed with using the syringe after.
Achievement
Out of My Way! Find the usher.
- Exit, and return through the double doors.
- Go through the door immediately after the wheelchair.
- Use the Syringe on the corpse sat at the piano.
- Note how the blackboard changes to reveal select notes, and then only circles.
- Exit and return to the reception area.
- Interact with the machine puzzle and move the strings to imitate the blackboard.
- Exit and return to Her Wheelchair. The iron gate should lift form barring one of the doors.
- Enter, and solve the TV puzzle to make an elephant's head.
Top image: rotate two times, shrink two times.
Bottom image: rotate three times, increase three times.
- Exit and walk right to the keypad-locked room, entering.
- Use the machine to turn the basement light green.
- Exit, and exit again to the orignal map, The Last I Saw Her.
- The hallway leading to the basement should now light up. Enter through the dark doorway.
- Walk left and solve the final TV puzzle to make two hands grasped together.
Top image: rotate three times, increase one time.
Bottom image: rotate two times, shrink two times.
- Exit the basement.
- Run left and hide in the closet until Fear's creature leaves.
- Enter the now unbarred door.
Achievement
Complete Chapter Three Complete Chapter Three.
Epilogue
Delusion
- Walk right until Agony appears.
- Walk right until Greed appears.
- Walk left and talk to Price's parents.

How Our Story Begins...
- Walk left and examine the oven.
- Try to go through the open doorway.
- Walk right and examine the grandfather clock.
- Walk left, away from the main door.
- Examine the door, and walk (left) away again.
- Let the police officer in.
- RUN!!

Hope
- Walk past Trauma, and then talk to Reason.
- Examine the tombstones.
- Walk right (and no, you can't speed-walk this).
- Talk to Price.
Achievement
Complete the Epilogue Complete the Epilogue.

I wonder... how was I supposed to find the solution to the "Out of My Way!" puzzle if the notes on the blackboard mean nothing until you interact with the pianist?
