"When Taylor Automotive started selling and building cars in Japan in 2014, their K-660 Lineup of Kei Cars proved to be competitive against the large line of models sold by Japan's biggest car companies. With the production-spec 2019 KR-660 Roadster ready to sell by Summer 2018, Taylor wondered how far their 660cc Kei Car engine can be tuned. So after the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon, Taylor gave the KR-660 Pre-Production model and their production variant of their 660cc Inline-3 to their Pikachu Racing tuning arm and they went to work on turning the simple roadster into a racing car.

Just in time for the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon, the 660-GTR was released. Designed to absolutely push the limits of what a Kei Car and it's engine could do, the Turbocharged SK6T1 660cc Engine was completely overhauled and given a larger turbo and intercooler. After the tuning, the tiny engine now produced 148 horsepower, 88 lb-ft of torque, and revs to a redline at 10,300rpm!

With the wide-bodied and fully Carbon-Fiber Kei-Car weighing no more than 500kg and mated to a racing-spec 7-speed Dual-Clutch gearbox, it launches from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and reaches up to 148mph with all the limiters removed (Kei Cars were restricted to 90mph). In private tests at Tsukuba, the car achieved a lap time of just 1:01:49 without additional tuning. That is about a second slower than some powerful JDM tuner cars (which are much faster on the straights) but very impressive for a Kei Car based race car, thanks to it's low weight along with it's incredible balance from a low center of gravity and near perfect front/rear weight distribution contributing to it's incredible agility.

People were impressed with Taylor's Race-Spec 660-GTR and it's menacing widebody stance. Even though this is well beyond the specs of a Kei Car, the 660-GTR shows the potential the upcoming KR-660 can have when it comes to tuning. Taylor also announced at the show that this car will be built in limited units and become part of a new one-make racing series in Japan called the "Taylor Super-Kei Challenge" in 2020."
