This mod allows procedurally generated monsters to use special (ranged) attacks. Now they will breath fire, vomit acid, spout eyeballs, shoot rainbows, and many other ranged attacks!

Features:
  • The attacks are enabled on ground monsters (both large and small) and flying monsters (large fliers always use ranged, small fliers have a chance of ranged).
  • Large ground monsters have melee and ranged attacks; small ground monsters have only ranged attacks.
  • Each attacks have unique sound so you won't be hearing fire breath SFX on ice sprinkler attack.
  • Large flying monsters now have two ranged attacks and hover above you instead of trying to charge on you.

This mod uses vanilla assets so it is safe to be uninstalled at any time without any repercussion.

Use either Enable Monsters Special Attacks or Supper's Combat Overhaul. DON'T USE BOTH!

The difference between Enable Monsters Special Attacks and Supper's Combat Overhaul:
  • This mod only uses existing monster skills, Supper's mod adds new skills and behaviors. Supper's is more advanced.
  • You can remove this mod mid-game (because this mod only uses vanilla files), while with Supper's mod you have to regenerate your universe before removing it (because Supper's mod adds new monster skills and behaviors).

This mod is neat, but I've found that often on certain planets it'll cause the game to crash with the following error in the logs:

[Error] Application: exception thrown, shutting down: (AssetException) No such frame 'idle' found for alias 'idle.1'

seems like it might be some problem with an animation?

This mod overwrites some special attacks of base game monsters, and often cases this can make them weaker. For anyone that uses pets, this mod is not for you sadly.

This mod is good for single player however in multiplayer it causes random EOF crashes just like @Sassy Archon Haver said.

As cool as this mod is, npcs are extremely vulnerable. The new attacks absolutely destroy them, and they'll just stand there and take hit after hit. I don't imagine there is a way to counteract this, but it's somewhat problematic imo.

Many thanks to you, dear sir, for this great change in the gameplay! I don't know why the devs deleted this feature, it really adds the monsters their special features and makes them more interesting and challenging. And, to be honest, their attacks aren't so unbalanced as some say, personally I'm quite satisfied with what the mod provides. Thank you!
