Cabergoline slide-
As Mrs. LN has recently been experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations she has likely developed schizophrenia. Although cabergoline is a good D2 dopaminergic receptor inhibitor, it is also associated with psychosis exacerbation. This may be caused by the serotonin reuptake inhibitor, meaning it will increase levels of serotonin in the body. Very high levels of serotonin, otherwise called serotonergic overdrive, caused by chronic widespread stress in the anterior cingulate cortex of the cerebral cortex of the brain is thought to be the cause of schizophrenia. Many tests have proven this link such as NMR spectroscopy and inhibition of serotonin receptors have been proven to treat schizophrenia.

Quetiapine Substitution Slide-
Quetiapine is an antipsychotic drug which is used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia. It is also an inhibitor of D2 dopamine receptors so it can still treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It is an antagonist of 5-HT1A and 5-HT2C serotonin receptors to prevent the symptoms of schizophrenia. Quetiapine also has a low affinity for muscarinic receptors which are thought to be linked to the possible side effects of the drug. As the affinity for these muscarinic receptors is very low, side effects such as dyspepsia are very unlikely to occur.
