Make it shine <3

Seriously, this game is therapeutic with it's powerwashing white noise, the gratification of watching dirt wash away and clear your mind, and the added bonus of co-op. Me and my husband had a blast playing this together. Fun plot too!

Please know that I am reviewing Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead Studios. Sony has negatively impacted the gaming experience for many, and I recognize that impact, but I don't want that to overlook the many positive things this game has to offer. As a fellow Helldiver I believe in freedom and you have the freedom to choose what you want spend your money on or what reviews you want to read! Enjoy your liber-tea!

Let me start by sharing Arrowhead's mission which I think is being accomplished in Helldivers 2:

"We’re dedicated to creating intensely thrilling and hilarious game experiences. Through games as a medium, we are on a mission to cure loneliness and build bridges, one friendly-fire co-op session at a time. We are a value driven company that strives to become the best co-op studio in the world."

Mission accomplished Arrowhead! There's something special about the way this game has brought the PvE gaming community together. Rarely does a co-op focused game like this flourish but they do it well. From the cheesy humorous intro video, the epic cape graphics, the connection between fellow helldivers, and the unwavering pride for super earth. This is a game worth playing.

The sense of urgency and danger is well done through the use of timed missions, realistic friendly fire, and dramatic explosions raining from the sky. Things that should feel big in this game do. I find myself cringing when my screen shakes from a nuke being set off to me squinting my eyes from the bright fiery entrance of fire tornadoes coming on screen (All hail Joel!). Not to mention the real time feedback of progress being made on a planet. I feel like my game play is making a difference and impacts whether a planet becomes liberated or not.

I also appreciate that you can't really just cheese your way through the game. For every mission you join, you have to be intentional about your load out meaning you want to be strategic with what support weapons you bring and what stratagems you want to have available. It can change the entire tide of a mission based on the load out you and others bring. This encourages players to communicate with one another or at least passively pay attention to what others are bringing so they can create a balanced group.

This leads me to my next point. Helldivers 2 is not a single player game. In my opinion, based on Arrowhead's mission, I don't think it was ever meant to be a single player game. This game encourages you to play with the community and pushes the 4 heads are stronger than one. In the intro video they describe helldivers as an elite peacekeeping force. This sets the culture for what is expected from anyone playing in the helldivers community. It reminds us that the goal is to fight for our freedom (cough Sony), spread democracy, and fight bugs and bots, not one another. Helldivers 2 community has been great in following this mission. They are typically laid back, passionate about the games mission, and allow room for human mistakes. I don't feel isolated when I'm playing in this community. The recent update that makes playing the game solo harder, just further enforces their personal mission that playing co-op is better than playing single player. So if you are looking for a solo single player experience. Don't buy this game!

Lastly, I will end with this. Despite Sony negatively impacting Helldivers 2, please don't let that hide that Arrowhead is still trying to spread democracy and fight for our freedom as gamers. That's why I chose to give this game a thumbs up. Thumbs down to Sony and their careless communication and forcing of accounts, but one huge thumbs up to Arrowhead for achieving their mission in making this gamer not feel so lonely in this crazy world. Thanks for creating a community that I feel connected to through gaming. For democracy!

Where to even begin? This game has everything a gamer could want. Beautiful graphics, incredible co-op, and an unending hatred for bugs! Until this game, I always sympathized with elves, but I'm quickly becoming a dwarf through and through. I love how the game changes depending on which class you play. Not to mention it has a tons of replay-ability through the fact that no map is the same and you can change your class' build to fit whatever play style you prefer. I've never played such a co-op team oriented dependent game before and I love it. Rock and Stone!!!

May Odin's Blessing be upon you if you purchase this game! If you enjoy survival games and viking lore then this is the game for you! You can customize your character based on the food you eat, the weapons you use, and the armor you create. The base building is also a lot of fun in this game!
