As a die-hard Age of Empires 2 fan for over two decades, I wholeheartedly recommend Age of Empires 4 to both veterans and new players. The developers expanded on the AoE2 formula without trying to completely reinvent the wheel like AoE3 did, instead focusing on giving us more variety between the playable civilizations. The Mongols or the Chinese now have a vastly different playstyle from one another, with much more than just a unique unit or bonus or two to set them apart. I think that's a great approach that offers a good variety in playstyles.

The game looks good, sounds good and plays like a smoother, more streamlined AoE2. It's good stuff.

DO NOT BUY, unless you want to have your life ruined by one of the most absolute, disgustingly great games that you will ever play. I haven't got up from the couch to pee since i started playing. In fact I've curated a system using bendy straws that extend from 'THE TIP' all the way to the sump pump pit (because its downhill, cant forget gravity, of course). Food? getting up to eat is for losers and quitters. I've trained my dogs to bring me mouth fulls of kibble. They don't taste great but its nutrition. Plus by the time it gets to me they're soft from dog spit and easily digestible. Doodah? Just holding it tbh. Once heard of a guy who held it for over 3 months so, well see? Anyway, games a 9.2 out 10 but will make you quit your job, leave your wife, heck you'll send your kids for milk and they'll never return. All hail the mighty PALWORLD.
