Relink is my introduction to the GBF universe, it wasn't even on my radar until 2 peeks prior to release. You can imagine my face when I found out the game was announced back in 2016 and delayed for around half a decade. The delay was absolutely worth it as the game is an absolute masterpiece.

If you're planning on picking up Relink only to play through the story and then not touching it again I would recommend against doing that, as it was stated and pretty obvious from playing the game, the story is not the focus of the game, more so the endgame. While the story itself isn't a masterpiece, it's not bad either. If you've played any other JRPG's you'll find plenty of similarities between writing. However it is full of epic and "ooh s**t" moments.
While playing the story the captain (Gran or Djeeta) will be forced to be a part of your party, however they don't need to be the character you control. After the story is done you'll be able to remove them from the party entirely. The main campaign has no multiplayer whatsoever, which to me, is no problem at all.

Where the game really starts to shine is in its wide variety of characters, gameplay and the endgame. You have 18 characters (19 if you count Gran and Djeeta as seperate) to choose from to make a 4 man party. While the characters don't have specific roles that they should stick with, it's quite easy to see which characters are meant to be used for support, tanking or unleashing huge amounts of DPS. Every character is unique in their playstyle and not just copy paste. Because of this, if you ever get bored of playing a character, just switch it up and you'll be playing in an entirely different way with other methods of approaching your current obstacle.

For the people familiar with Monster Hunter, endgame works more or less the same, You go to the quest counter, pick up a quest, play either online or offline, complete the quest, return to town or redo it repeat.

Personally, I love grinding and min maxing characters so I'm sure I'll enjoy the endgame which I'm now headed to.

Cygames did an amazing job in making the step of leaving Gacha behind and making something completely different, which to my knowledge is their first attempt at a game like this. Well done devs.
