If you're looking for a realistic animal simulator, this game is absoloutely worth your time. The devs have gone above and beyond to give us an accurate portrayal of the daily life of an average Yellowstone wolf, incoperating real elements from coat genetics to the animal's sleep circle as observed in the wild. Yellowstone National Park itself is depicted with as much attentiont to accuracy, as the game map is created directly from the real life enviroments it portrays such as Amethyst Mountain and Slough Creek, including existing sight seeings and accurate to reality flora and fauna. This accuracy extends even to the ambient sound design of the game as the developers chose to include sounds of birds and critters one would encounter in the park itself.

The gameplay is as follows: you design your wolf (with life-accurate coats and characteristics) and are dropped in the first map of Amethyst Mountain where your goal is to become an experienced hunter and attract a mate. In the process you will compete with other wolves as well as bears, coyotes and cougars as well as lesser threats such as foxes and avian scavengers who will deplete the kills you make the longer you leave them unprotected.

Once you've found (and bonded) with your mate the game will take you to the next location, Slough Creek, where you will begin the process of establishing a territory by marking and discover places you could use for your future den. Once you've completed the mission your wolf will have pups (the number of which will depend on the genetics of you and your companion - the number of your litter ranges from 1 to 7). Then, the game masterfully depicts all the things you must balance to keep your pups fed, your territory protected, and predators away from your den. As time progressess the ungulate creatures of the park give birth, giving you the chance to hunt easier pray. The game ends once your pups have left the den and have become self sustaining enough to become proper members of the pack (which is the next episode of the game currently in progress). If you complete several litters with the same wolf, your wolf will age and with it will come certain perks you can chose from until the age of 8, where your wolf will eventually pass away. You can continue playing as any of your pups all grown up.

There are no visible humans in the game but their presence can be discovered throughout in the form of abandoned buildings and collectable items you can discover through a scavenger hunt. There is also an extra map that's entirely created by the dev team called Lost River, an abandoned town you can explore.

Overall the game is a real fun experience (which also supports multiplayer) with great attention to detail and respect for the creatures it depicts.

If I were to criticize it for anything, it would be some of the movements and animation of the wolf we control as I've found it to be moving a bit fast and uncharacteristic of an animal with weight. Sometimes, the wolf may feel like a puppet with no will of its own. Other than that, nothing really breaks the immersion of the game as there is so much you can do and so much realism one can hardly be turned off by a few locomotion hiccups.

I have not been folllowing the progress of this game's development from too early on, but long enough to determine some things. First of all, I remain an active player of Cereal Soup because when things go right, the game has a lot of potential within it. However, for every right there will be two wrongs.
It really is not a good thing when you have to prepare yourself for dissapointment, rightfully so, whenever something new is added to the game. I am not too excited for any new feature or progress announcement because I know the game is so messy and unplayable that I won't be able to properly enjoy it, and 90% of the time I am correct. My friend and I even have this saying: "It's Cereal Soup - what did you expect". Things are always, and I mean always, bound to go wrong one way or another. I remember one time I spent so long trying to get from point A to point B, and midway trying the camera went crazy and began spinning non stop out of nowhere. I was so frustrated and tired from trying to accomplish such a basic video game task that I ended up breaking my mouse.
Despite this, I keep giving this game chances and remaining optimistic, which is why it angers me so much to see it this broken. The models are very decent, and the way you can control them are quiet detailed and creative - when they work. The community is very entertaining and you are bound to meet some interesting people to have fun with - again, if technical things go smoothly.
Knowing not everyone has the patience to give that I have for this game, I do not recommend it. It simply is not presentable in the condition it is in right now. The audience will understandably despise it and not return to it, which is a pity.

I believe it is important to keep in mind that the game is under development - it is indeed a complete game, but it is currently being re-made from scratch with incredible graphics, improved and new mechanics as well as new content. This major change will come free to anyone who already owns this version of the game (obviously not the new episode which will be a new chapter entirely) and from what sneak peeks we have been presented with so far I can only say it is worth the money.
What about the current state?
Though far from perfect it is a thoroughly entertaining game with attention to realism. Its purpose is to put you in the shoes (or rather, paws) of a wolf and experience the wilderness through an educational wild life simulation. In other words, it's a must for nature enthusiasts and those fascinated by nature's apex predators.
Such games are a pretty rare find, especially accurate and decent ones. It is crystal clear the developers of Wolf Quest know what they are doing, and are willing to go above and beyond to make this game truly shine.
Of course, realistic simulator games involving animals aren't exactly for everyone. Wolf Quest, specifically, wishes to throw challenges at you that'll force you to "think like a wolf" and immerse yourself into an animal-like mindset (something to be more apparent in the new, upcoming version) which could understandably upset some people who may not be as invested in the game (Ex. hunting solo can be quite difficult, you need patience to complete certain tasks, you need to pick your battles etc. All of which work in the name of realism however may upset some).
Speaking from a personal standpoint, Wolf Quest is the ideal game. I've always admired nature and how wild animals push themselves to the brink in order to survive, part of me wishing to experience the andrenaline rush of a long - lasting hunt. The game does its best to give you just that, and for what it can offer you it succeeds quite well.
I deffinately recommend it, and I urge you to look forward to the major update currently on the way.
