Despite its “alluring” looks, this game is genuinely one of the most fun roguelikes out there. The gameplay loop is beyond addicting, and it’s very easy to lose track of time while playing run after run. The game oozes with charm, from the item descriptions, to the sprites, to the characters, I found it hard to not smile while playing this game. The horror aesthetic helps separate it from other roguelikes, and with the amount of references and genres of horror it uses, it almost feels like the spirit Halloween of its genre.

It’s simple enough that anyone can pick it up and play it, but there’s enough depth to keep people coming back for more over and over again. With tons of challenges, unlocks, and content, the replayability is pretty much limitless. There’s loads of room for skill expression, as every room felt perfectly crafted to be a fair yet tough challenge.

The soundtrack is phenomenal, containing several earworms that will get you hyped up, mellowed out, or send an eerie chill up your spine. Also the ability to listen to the full soundtrack in game is a very nice touch, and great to leave on in the background while getting work done.

With the final update coming out today, I must say that while I am sad that the game is finally over, I’m happy it ended on a very high note. Dead estate is a game I can recommend to anyone who enjoys roguelikes, or all things spooky… despite whatever weird looks you get from playing it. Easy 10/10.
