This masterwork of a game encompasses themes and motifs of many classic movie and game genres. The art style -although rudimentary- is fantastic for conveying the mood and attitude the developer intended to build. As the first entry in the Ninja Stealth Saga, one may assume that the story may be subpar or lacking. Instead, the story is extremely detailed, entrancing, and thought provoking. Some of the plot hooks and story webs rival media greats like G.R.R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, or J.R.R Tolkien's Hobbit and Lord of the Ring's series.

These paragraphs do contain mild spoilers for the games plot, although most of the larger events are already famously known in the Ninja Stealth community prior to playing the game. The plot begins immediately after loading the game to your preferred graphics settings. As the game is loaded, a cutscene of a lone man, with short and shaggy hair, dons a traditional ninja face wrap, and equips himself with two Katanas and multiple ninja stars. This unnamed protagonist begins his incursion into the dreary grey facility owned by a 'local business mogul.' It is also revealed that many believe this 'business mogul' to be a robber baron, a man who exploits workers and the market to amass great wealth creatively shown by a pamphlet held in out protagonists hand. He climbs the facility's outer fences and scales the large granite walls. He reaches the peak of the so called 'Trebule's Tower' and overlooks the wide expanse of the company buildings. Suddenly, a large armed guard emerges from the inner workings of the tower, and begins a struggle with our protagonist. After a grueling battle, the guard is laid slew on the rooftop, sliced from clavicle to groin. This is just the beginning of the troubles for our character. the roof slick with blood, he slowly attempts to descend into a nearby window. Suddenly, another guard appears, shoving him. the wrapped feet of our character slip, and he falls from the tower, into a black pit of nothingness below. The screen fades to darkness. This is when control is given to the player. We awake at the beginning of a labyrinth of guards, cameras, and lasers. We must uncover the secrets of the facility, and climb the tower once again but this time, from the inside.

The first several levels are mainly tutorial, with the basic and most common traps being laid out to the player. Later, is when the real heavy handedness and deeply emotional story segments are unveiled. We learn the name of the protagonist is Antonio Suzuki-Hernandez, a descendant of a Mexican immigrant to Japan. His mother is revealed to have escaped the Mexican state of Baja California due to extreme violence between competing cartels. She requested asylum after having stowed herself away on a cargo ship of Cocaine and Fentanyl. In the years after, she fell in love with a local bondsman named Ichiro Suzuki. After several years together, the succeed in conceiving a child, who would grow up to be Antonio. Several weeks after Antonio's birth, his father disappeared at the site that would later be built into the facility that is seen in the opening cinematic. After his mother's death from exhaustion by working in the factory, Antonio begins his invasion into the factory. This motive contrasts the earlier implied motive of saving the workers and people as revenge overpowers Antonio.

The most crucial game moments for Antonio's development as a character, are the gas chamber, smelting floor, and Managers office.

The Gas Chamber encounter occurs about a third a way into the overall story of the game. Antonio finally escaped from the Barbarous and aggressive 'Supervisor Cleo' and is no longer in the 'lower levels' (level 1-117). Antonio enters a automatically closing door to a control chamber, directly between two identical chambers. Once entering, the door seals behind him and he realizes the walls are 1 way glass. Antonio can see directly into the adjacent chambers, but they don't seem to recognize him being there. He is berated by a deep booming voice over an intercom. "Antonio, you must now make a choice." Antonio stood puzzled as his name had remained known only to himself up until now. "Whichever lever you pull, the corresponding room will die." The player is then given the opportunity to decide the fate of the two rooms, one filled with local Japanese workers, and another filled with Mexican 'Managers.' This trial tests Antonio's -and by extension the player's- desire to save the innocent workers, or preserve the heritage he gets from his mother. Whichever choice the player's make, the opposite room is flooded with gas, as the voice over the intercom sarcastically apologizes to Antonio. Tears stream down Antonio's face. This specific encounter is one of the three that decides the cannon and non-cannon endings of this game.

The Smelting floor is a climactic battle between Antonio and Supervisor Cleo. This takes place after stalking her on the foundry floors (152-154) She had just been ambushed by Antonio on a high up catwalk above massive smelters of orange liquid metal. After a boss fight, one of the most difficult encounters in modern gaming, rivaling those of Dark Souls and Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Antonio kicks the grey metal mask covering Cleo's face into the vat below. It is revealed she too is a Mexican. She mutters to herself as she leans against the handrail in Spanish, a language Antonio hadn't heard since the death of his mother (this is reveled in an interrupting flashback.) Another choice is then afforded to the player: spare or kill the supervisor. This is yet again a cannon and non-cannon decision point. In the cannon path, Antonio spares the supervisor and lowers her slowly to the factory floor to be attended to by medical professionals. In the non-cannon choice, Antonio suplexes Cleo, insulting her Mexican heritage, and kicks her body into the vat of red hot liquid swinging underneath them. Despite the choice, the player is given a new black baton called "The Enforcer" which grants +15 attack and +45% intimidation factor.

The Managers office is the final level of the game, and the ending boss fight. On level 244, one level below the Manager's Office, the player discovers several images of his own mother along the walls, and later, if the player chooses to use the fourth level judo chop, or 3rd level lockpick on the desk, a small image of a baby boy is seen. Upon entering the office a shadowy figure is seen behind a massive and intimidating desk. Sitting in a large winged chair in front of an intercom is a relatively average Japanese man. This is in stark contrast to the massive enemies the player had defeated before. He stands up from the desk and taunts Antonio, and the fight begins. The final boss is completely different from every other enemy in the game. This final boss is also using ninja and brutish fighting techniques. No matter the level of grinding the player partakes in, the boss will always have higher level abilities. when the boss has been brought to half health, his face is revealed from his ninja mask, and it is remarkably similar to that of Antonio's. He quickly covers his face again and continues fighting. Once the Boss is brought to zero hitpoints, a cutscene begins. The boss falls backwards, clambering against his desk and breaks the window behind it. He barely manages to remain inside. Antonio approaches the Overseer, as he has been referred, and begins a dialogue. The Overseer reveals himself to be Ichiro Suzuki, Antonio's father. He pleads, claiming he was preparing to take revenge on that sent Antonio's mother to Japan. The player can then kill, or spare, Ichiro. Sparing him is cannon, and the final cutscene shows Antonio sailing to Mexico, trained by the challenge he just escaped, to help his father take revenge. This same cutscene is the opening to Ninja Stealth 2.
