EDIT AFTER RECENT PATCH:

Volumes are perfectly fine now as far as Im concerned, its sometimes hard to tell a volume rock if you dont see it from a good angle, but with the changes its not that bad.

Cracks are also a lot better.

Pinches however are not any better, a bit more time is nice and all but doesn't do a lot.

The rotating spinners are also quite fine, but you tend to accidentally step on one of the blades for a split second completely cancelling out all momentum you had when trying a leap. I believe this could be fixed by making them have 3 blades or making you always slide off them.

With pinches, volumes, long sections of nothing but stamina draining rocks and stamina draining rocks in areas where its unclear where to to proceed it feels like this DLC is heavily weighted towards using chalk, which I dislike as someone who doesn't use items.

I still don't recommend the dlc at the moment simply due to pinches, a single bad apple is enough to spoil a climb when you keep falling at the same section.

The game looks gorgeous, the horror is done incredibly well, the sound design is top notch and the story + world kept me going. But the gameplay is just incredibly middle of the road and boring, theres so many missed opportunities and for a lack of a better word, bland game design.

Gameplay wise you've basically seen everything the game has to offer in the first hour or so. The game has a VERY limited amount of different enemies. You've seen all items and most of them get more and more useless as the game goes on.

The amount of items in the game is frankly obscene, and I dont mean different items, I mean the AMOUNT of items, I cant leave my base for 2 minutes before my inventory is filled to bursting, when I make it back home I have to discard a large amount of items from the massive workbench storage just to make space for the slightly more useful items, or I shovel them onto the trader.

As more and more items get more useless, theres more and more garbage to shovel onto the poor merchant leading you to have thousands upon thousands of "currency" or reputation as its called in the game. The offerings or prices the main trader has never change, but the amount of currency is ever increasing, with of course, the items being less and less useful.

And i say THE TRADER and not TRADERS cause theres THREE actual traders total. Two of which are only seen at the beginning of the game.

Whats the point of having Molotov cocktails, explosive barrels, gas grenades, single fire guns or small fragile melee weapons when two swings of the mighty shovel is enough to kill 90% of the enemies in the game.
If I happen to have trouble with an enemy or god forbid the game decides to send MORE THAN ONE ENEMY after me, I can just pull out my firearm of choice and unload a few shots from the absolute stockpile of ammunition the game grants.

An assault rifle and a pump action shotgun sound great and all, but when you unlock their recipes, it will likely be 10 minutes away from completing the game in an area where you have wiped out the entire population eons ago.

So where to actually use your more *limited* and *useful* weaponry? nowhere, the game barely has anything you can call difficulty progression. After the very first area most nights will be on par with the last, all nights will spent in your little favorite room sitting waiting for the friendly dog of the night to get evaporated by the shovel of justice.

This is all so frustrating cause I see great potential, you are very vulnerable with the clunky controls and constantly changing limited visibility, along with complete panic and helplessness without your proper weapons.

If the game (and difficulty) was just paced better, forced you to use different weaponry (due to weapons breaking or items being WAY more limited) I could see it being similar pain and stress levels to something like pathalogic or fear & hunger

I originally played this game at the beginning of the year and gave up after a two hours. I went back to play it after how fun it seemed seeing it on a (UNDISCLOSED PERSONS) youtube channel. And in the end I had to practically force myself to finish it through the boredom.

Review Epilogue: I HATE difficulties that make the game more PUNISHING instead of making the game HARDER. Give me the UNFORGIVING UNHANDHOLDY gaming experience I was promised.

God I need more character interactions, reading the wiki is like a drip feed of interesting trivia that I would have loved to learn organically. Good game otherwise.

Great concept and loads of fun when the conditions are right.

But the game follows lethal company very much down to its faults.

Its incredibly punishing for no reason and it makes playing the game for fun substantially less fun. If you lose the camera for whatever reason you have to walk out completely empty handed. No fun footage to look at, footage that you worked so hard on, and the lack of getting views pretty much grantees your runs demise and loss of everything you've purchased.

The devs should at the very least add a mode where you can't lose a run and preferably even make it so you can look at your footage no matter what happens to your camera.

An amazing game, a game that understood why getting over it was so enjoyable, I could feel myself getting better and better each fall and I could probably beat the game again in a fraction of the time.

Now its not perfect, the second to last area (like 1/3rd of my game time was dedicated to this one location alone) features a lot of precise climbing where if you fail you fall all the way to the last "checkpoint" and have to start again, this underhands the entire rest of the game to this point where if you fell you almost always had a good chance of grabbing onto something and not falling that far, unless on specific deadly fall spots.

This the game always saves on leaving(I dont know how saving works if you alt-f4/crash) and if you do something like pause or leave while grabbed onto something you will be firmly glued to that grab until you press your inputs again. Being able to press space to pull yourself up worked wonders on not killing my wrists and made hard jumps easier, but it did pull me into some bad habits.

Now the game only needed an Australian to babble in your ear.

Big recommend from big Getting over it fan

Quite enjoyable game, there are a few incredibly hard parts, a couple "RNG" sections, a couple of weird spawn orientations, constantly dying by hitting your head into the ground trying to build momentum and dying to a checkpoint pole is beyond infuriating.

Otherwise the game was fairly consistent, I just wish you could lock your camera angle to ~80 degrees or so that you never have to die trying to build momentum, there are very few sections where you might actually want to turn your camera past that.

Library of ruina is my favorite game of all time and its a shame that this game feels like an extremely watered down version of its gameplay. It removes everything that was fun about it and replaces it with either nothing or downgrades.

Visual novel sections are fine but feel way too slow paced with constantly fighting the same enemy between what should be connected story and greeting new characters that aren't generic grunt 2# once in a blue moon.

Game looks great, it has a good concept, voice acting is mostly good and there are like 3 fun/interesting quests.

Otherwise almost all of the quests are very simple fetch quests with little to no substance, having the worst stealth I've played in a game and being incredibly short for its price tag.

There is not much to say about the quests, an npc will tell you to go somewhere, mark it on the map and when you come back they either give you scrap or a weapon. Theres 3 quests that require little more than just walking.

The stealth boils down to enemies walking in the same circle pattern making an extremely loud sound. If they see you, you have to either run 5 minutes away from the dungeon, lure them to the train to shoot them or simply run past them.
They deal 10% of your health bar in a single shot, have to stand still for multiple seconds to shoot and you'll regen your health back faster than they can generally damage you. So after the first dungeon and being stopped in the second one I just ran through all remaining dungeons without any risk.

You fight Charles only a couple of times (mostly because the length of the game) and its just firing at him until he leaves, you can keep changing weapons, but that's pretty much how far the strategy goes in this game.

The game is also optimized very poorly from what I've heard, personally I was lucky enough not to have run any frame drops, other than opening the map tanking my frames into oblivion each and every time I opened it.

It's a shame because I absolutely adore the concept (being the reason I bought this in the first place), having a mobile base that's your only real safe heaven that you have to venture away from to upgrade and manage it. I think the game suffers from having only one big bad since you never have to learn to adapt or do stuff like weapon switching.

It's pretty clear some aspects of this game are meant to be satire and the game doesn't take itself seriously, I dont like calling things unfunny, but there wasn't any actual attempts at jokes in the game, everything felt like the dev was trying to be as absurdist as possible.

While I don't think the game was meant to be a cash grab, its just barely long enough to be pushed out of steams refund policy, released before giving it enough proper development time for the scope, costing way too much, getting increasingly less and smaller updates and having a plushie announced of charlie almost immediately after the games release.
