At the very least Rimworld gives you perspective, Sure your life could be bad, but atleast your not in the future stranded on a planet seeded with earth life, except for the bio-engineered giant insects and murderous robots. Not to mention the rampant diseases, roaming raiders, cannibals, hostile predators, and more.

Besides that its a solid management game with tons of options, especially with mods, I'd recommend atleast giving it a try if your in the mood for a "Build community/outpost and survive" type thing.

It adds in new mechanics that work really well with the atmosphere and gameplay, one of the best Half Life mods I've played.

Yes I know I'm adding to the list of reviews that simply talk about HL3, but I would like to say something. Just because HL3 is "dead" doesn't mean that Half Life is dead, the way I see it, as long as one person likes Half Life, then it is still alive, it clearly holds up to this day. Not to mention there still is a slim possibility for a new game in the Half Life Universe.

Edit: In terms of gameplay, which I should have mentioned, its the same as the other HL source games, If I had to rank the three different "HL2" games I'd put it it second, behind HL2 but ahead of EP1, it introduces new enemies in an engaging way, and ties it in with the story pretty well. And without spoiling anything, the climax is actually very fun, and tied with a new mechanic aswell. A solid game, I'd recommend it.

(Also new Half Life game WAS announced, so I guess the first part of this is kinda dated now...)
