Try with an easy mode AI. It's important to capture control points as quickly as possible. You you earn special powers with more kills. Look at the round notification with a number in it on the left and click on it. You can select what upgrades you want from that tree. These are very important to get the upper hand. Get a few morter crews and one or two tanks built early. Use machine gun implacements early (built with engineers). Hope this helps.

That game is kicking my butt. I can't seem to get a handle on it. I'm not doing too bad on the missions, but when I do a skirmish with the AI, I get my butt handed to me. Maybe a skirmish with you will help give me some ideas about what I am doing wrong. Let me know when you have some time.
