Tactical, Immersive, and insanely Intense. The best shooter i've played in years.

The most original, satisfying, and intuitively simple shooter on VR. An absolute must have for anyone who enjoys the VR FPS genre.

Negative Reviews are an enemy to Democracy.

The Callisto Protocol is not as bad as the negative reviews make it sound, but its not as amazing as the positive reviews tell you it is either. Lets be honest here.

I'm on my second play-through and i am still having "fun". I say that in quotations because i am a very patient gamer who often appreciates atmosphere over mechanics. Which in the case of the Callisto Protocol, is quite an advantage for me. I've spent a lot of time in the Photo mode, admiring the beauty of the visuals. The game certainly shines when you are exploring and crafting without interruption from enemies. Taking in the atmosphere, between tense encounters, one drawn out breath at a time. When you do encounter an enemy, or in the case of this game, enemies, the combat can be VERY frustrating. However, when you get the hang of it, as i have, it can feel very rewarding taking down a group of enemies while utilizing melee and shooting mechanics simultaneously. Unfortunately, this takes a hell of a lot of practice, which can often feel futile, because the difficulty of the game is unrelenting. (especially in the last third of the story)
While that isn't a great thing, it does make the encounters visceral and intense, as the fear of dying is very much present. Just hope you don't die 10x in a row, because that's when you stop caring about intensity.

Performance based reviews are null and void at this point, the game has been patched and runs perfectly for me. So don't regard those negative reviews from Day 1 haters. The devs listened and responded, and that is very respectable.

OVERALL, this game is... Good. Which if you're a dead space fan like me, is disappointing. I don't regret paying full price. I wanted to contribute to a project that i really believed in. Its just that the masterpiece of horror i was hoping for is certainly not what i got.
I'm not going to implore anyone else to do the same, unless they feel they owe it to Glen Schofield for making Dead Space, which i certainly did. 6/10
