After putting in hundreds of amazing hours in Divinity: OS 2, I was sold on Larian. I've since went back and played most of their previous games and found similar enjoyment... but each game I played felt worse than Divinity: OS 2. I noticed that when I put them in chronological order, I could honestly see a vast improvement in every iteration they have made. And after playing this masterpiece of a game, I'm confident that they did it again. I am blown away by the sheer passion these developers drive in to their games. Please Larian, give me more.

I could go on and on about how great this game is and it'd be a long review. But I'll just sum it up by saying what I've already said. It's the next iteration of a Larian Studios game. ******* buy it already.

I'm obviously in the minority here, I understand that. I've never given a negative review before. And I've never disliked a game with such raving reviews. But I honestly can't understand such a high review score. Don't get me wrong, the game is made with a high production value. You can see it in the graphics, animations, art style... but there's something just off about it for me.

For one, while the graphics and art style are very good, I just don't think it fits as well as it should. As a game set in Norse mythology and culture, it doesn't do the time period justice. I was expecting a gritty, grimy, setting with ancient cities built in stone and magnificent wooden halls... but that's not what this game has to offer. It felt like a carbon copy of assassins creed and the Isu. Much more high fantasy and not dirty, war obsessed gods based on the actual Norse mythology. But mythology is up to subjective interpretation, and maybe it just didn't match MY interpretation of what I expected.

I have to admit, the game has amazing presentation at onset. I loved this old god living in a hole in the wall shack(more of my interpretation of Norse mythology) attempting to live a life he wants. That part of the story gripped me and I was all for it. Unfortunately, that ended just as fast as it started. And in my opinion, the best combat sequence in the game so far was in the first hour. And it goes all downhill from there.

The combat seems fun and exciting at first. Throwing the axe was a thrill. But it becomes unbelievably, incredibly stale after a mere hour or 2. Plus, it makes zero sense how Kratos goes from literally throwing mountains in the first big fight, to having to hit the scrawny little undead creatures 15 times to kill them. It doesn't make sense to me. It took me out of the immersion so much. It hurt to see what could be and then be forced to wack at little enemies over and over again in the same manner.

The enemies are extremely repetitive. You rarely fight something you haven't encountered before after the first 2 hours. Maybe a couple reskins here and there. Truly disappointing. The funniest thing about the game is that there is a bestiary. A bestiary. A bestiary in a game with maybe 10 or a couple more enemy types. With barely any variety between them. And it's not like The Witcher where you use the bestiary to study up on an enemy and learn how to defeat them more efficiently. Nah, it's really just here is this enemy. It's in the game. Blows my mind they added a bestiary. Hilarious even.

The puzzle are horrendous. They aren't puzzles. It's just finding the correct trajectory to fling my axe at a couple bulbous plants that then release a chest or a door. That's it. I mean really. It's honestly it.

And the chests. Oh god the chests. So many of them. Everywhere. Complete with the same extra long animation that you can't escape. And there's never anything that I care in them. Ever. The only thing you pull out of them are these little leather-looking pouches. No matter what you pull out of that chest, it's gonna be a tiny little pouch half the size of your hand. You can come across a beautifully designed, ornate chest that radiates "open me... I have amazing loot", and it's just 1 tiny pouch that contains some skill, uninteresting crafting component or some god awful talisman or charm.

The "crafting" and upgrade system are a total slog as well. Terribly integrated into a game about a living god. Why do I need this little piece of armor? I'm a god. I throw mountains at things I don't like. It also completely artificially bumps up play time. I don't want to sit through this game tinkering with a myriad of different armor specs. In some games sure. But it doesn't fit when you are controlling the God of War.

I see why some people like the game. I do. But it's painfully casual. And that inherently isn't a problem. It's just the game tries to put up this facade of a great, father and son epic, fighting undead and gods alike... but then the gameplay and feel of the game is completely casual. It's a very odd mix that I've never experienced before.

Also, I swear the only reason the FoV is so ridiculously low, is to hide the son's terrible pathfinding, logic, and frankly amusing teleportation to catch up to you. That's the reason. I'm convinced.

This game is a testament that there are developers who legitimately care about their product. They clearly didn't try to nickel and dime the consumers... there are no DLC's. It is a fully, complete game. A game with hundreds of hours of replayability. I have played through the entire game 4 times already and I just started my 5th. It's truly a masterpiece. A gem. If turn based combat and deep story building and unlimited creativity potential is your type of thing, Divinity: OS 2 is what you have been looking for.

It's definitely difficult. Even playing on the easiest difficulty you're going to struggle. But it's a beautiful struggle. Each time you try and fail or start a new game entirely, you will learn something different. Whether that be a new way to approach a situation, a conflict, or amazing and perfectly accepted and encouraged ways to cheese the game. Honestly how you solve a situation or fight is completely dependent on how creative you are. It's truly a game that makes you think and scratches that itch for a real in-depth problem solving in an RPG format. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. I'd bet money that you won't be disappointed.

Had this game in my library for years and never really played past the first part. I regret that so much now. There are so many good things to say about this game but I'll say what I'm impressed with the most. This is the first and only game I've ever played that made me not only have to use the crafting system, but also made the crafting system so much fun and rewarding to use. Every time I broke down all my trash items and items I didn't need into usable crafting parts, I got a rush of satisfaction. Seeing the animation and then all my little cube parts fall into a bin so I can pick them up was strangely awesome. There was also nothing in the crafting menu that wasn't useful. Crafting system is A+.

Graphics are nice but not something that sets the game apart or anything. The performance is great on mid-tier systems. I myself was on highest settings and never dropped below 70 I believe.

The story was very well written. Some parts were more interesting than others but overall, from start to finish, there was excellent writing and execution. I was fully investing in Morgan Yu's story the whole time. There were some very large twists that had me smiling in my seat I was so impressed because I didn't see it coming.

The combat system is another great aspect of this game. I think a great way to summarize how I feel about it is that in the beginning of the game, I was terrified. I crouched everywhere I went and stuck to the shadows. Every weapon I picked up or ability I got was a life saver and helped me tenfold. But every weapon was a necessity... if I didn't have them I would die in an instant. Later on in the game... yeah, the game much easier because of all the upgraded weapons and super OP typhon abilities... but the combat system never got stale and I still loved every second of it. Instead of being terrified I would walk into a room, out of the shadows, head held high, with my shotgun in my hands saying "ohhhhh how the tables have turned now my typhon friends", and run around blasting enemies in some of the most fun I've had in a combat system in years and years. When I got super powerful, it truly was a memorable experience. Almost had a Doom style feeling to it because you're just so powerful against these once so strong enemies.

Overall, a great game that I highly recommend to everyone.

I feel like ConcernedApe would be an awesome person to hang out/become friends with. The simple yet joyful world he created surely speaks to his character and attitude towards life. If you're one of the few who haven't played this masterpiece yet... please do.

What I love most about video games is that they are art. And like other mediums in art, some are better than others. Games have this ability to not only paint beautiful, scenic, and memorable vistas and moments, but to bring those vistas and moments to life.

Journey is hardly a game. It's an experience. It's just art. I thoroughly enjoyed every second.

On top of everything, at the very end, I realized I was smiling and hadn't stopped since around 5 minutes into the game. Not a smile of humor or anything like that. I was genuinely just happy. Genuinely happy to be sharing this experience with an unknown stranger. Which is a mindblowing experience in and of itself. 10/10

My play time upon finishing was below the 2 hour mark. I could have refunded it. But how could I experience such amazing art and not give the creators what is rightfully earned. Buy it. Enjoy it for what it is. Take away some sort of emotion from it if you can. What I got out of it was 2 is always better than 1. Whoever my partner was, thank you for the experience and sorry for having to use the bathroom halfway through.

Possibly the greatest redemption story arc of any game ever. Have you ever played a game where the developers continuously release large updates for free and the entire fanbase is angry because they DON'T have to pay for it? Players desire to give Hello Games more money to keep the amazing content coming. Honestly I've never seen anything like it in all my time playing games. It's seriously impressive how they went from one of the most hated developers to being the literal saint of the gaming industry.
