For a game called Friends VS Friends, alot of the cards and mechanics of this game seem to support an very unfriendly playstyle.

Often when i'm playing this game it feels like winning doesn't come down to who's the better player, but who has the better deck of cards and is luckier with what cards you get. This is especially noticeable at higher levels, where most people have all the cards unlocked and at max level, where people can put together some truly frustrating and annoying decks.

A perfect example of this is a card like Present, a Card that gives you and your opponent a weapon and boost card. This sounds like it would serve to make the game more fun and interesting, except then your opponent can use a card like Disarm, removing your weapon and essentially giving them a free win.

It can be a fun game otherwise it but it is frustrating to feel like you're losing not because your opponent is a better player but because they had a better deck then you and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ you over.

EDIT: The new matchmaking system recently added has made the game so much worse. A boost giving you extra speed or a bigger ammo count means nothing when going up against someone double your rank. It's not fun on either side of things, when you're up against someone of a higher rank, it feels hopeless, when you're against someone of a lower rank, there's no challenge.

At the moment the game is plagued with hackers and scripters on most official servers, rather then deal with this the devs seem more keen on silencing anyone who mentions it. Don't buy it.

Brutally simple, brutally difficult, brutally fun. This game is worth the $5 pricetag and then some, all i can really ask for is more.

Dear Blue Mammoth, whatever the hell you did to Thatch and Sentinel, please undo it. Thatch has triangle mouth now and Sentinel looks so out of place. Undo these redesigns and i will remove this negative review.

Sadly, in its current state i cannot reccomend this game.

I was drawn to this game by the steam reviews others gave of it telling the great stories they had with this game, but i never got to experience any of that for myself. Instead most of my lives in the game consisted of either running around hopelessly as an "Eve" or dying even quicker as a child to one. On the few times i was lucky enough to either find or be born into a group i still didn't get very far because of the games confusing and often nonsensical crafting system or i'd simply get bitten by a wolf or snake and die.

This game has a very interesting and novel concept, but sadly it is poorly executed. An hour is hardly enough time for someone to even learn the ropes for a game like this, let alone experience a whole life.

Like i said the crafting is weird, you can normally only hold a single item at a time, so you just have to gather a single item at a time and then place them all around you if you want to make multiple or complex things. Also for some reason you can only craft things if done in the correct order, like how you can combine a piece of rope with a small shaft to add the rope to the shaft, but not the other way around.

Also, the field of view is way too small, made only worse by the lack of an ingame map or any real way to orient yourself, meaning getting lost is really easy.

Item combinations that would logically make sense will sometimes not work for whatever reason, and foods that would make sense being edible being inedible either because they aren't cooked or prepared right.

And of course, as i mentioned earlier, you're likely to die alot if you get unlucky and are born to a mother who has no interest in feeding you.

So, how could some of these problems be fixed? Well, you could start with having players spawn as adults for their first time logging in, then being reborn as a child after that, maybe even make it so male and females have to "mate" to create babies, giving people more of a chance to add more people to their group when they want to.

Secondly, just increase the FOV, and add in a mini map, even if that mini map has to be crafted in some way it would be better then nothing.

Thirdly, let players hold more then a single item, they have two hands after all. Maybe at a crafting menu, or at least something better then the current system.

And lastly, make crafting items be more leniant, the difference between a sharp stone and a cut piece of flint isn't so different so why can only one work for making an arrow?

So all in all, if problems like this were resolved in the game i might pick this game back up, but in its current state, i sadly can't reccommend it especially considering the price.

I feel giving a proper "game" review to The Miskatonic would be a bit pointless as it isn't really a game, rather a graphic novel where you occasionally get to click on stuff to get more text and images. But i will try and judge the game on what it does give, mostly its artwork, writing, and the message the story overall tries to send.

PRO'S:
The artstyle, character design and world design is great, every character you see wether they are a random background character or someone central to the plot looks unique and interesting in their own special way, but not to such an extreme degree that it's overbaring. Everywhere you go looks rightly drab and dreery but still lively in some way, which works well with the underlying horror of the lovecraftian world the story takes place in. The big cartoonishly eyed often cutesy (or/and sexy) design often clashes with the horrificly monstrous details of the Mistaktonic's residents in the best of ways.

The lore and backstory for the world also lends itself well here, the jist being that this is a world set after the events of all of HP Lovecrafts stories and literature, but instead of the expected result of the people of the world cowering in fear of these newly discovered horrors, humanity does the most human thing possible and instead decides to start screwing around with it, studying it, and trying to learn to control it. It shows interesting possible scenarios on how the world either adapts to or is affected by the primordial beasts now scattered across the globe (if only through being told as such by characters in the Miskatonic).

And of course the story, this is a graphic novel after all so the story is likely the most important aspect. The story is mostly told through the lens of the main character Charlotte LeStrange, a newly hired twentysomething:tm: at the titular Miskatonic university as a guard, patrolling the corridors and doing jobs to keep the place from falling apart, mostly. At one of these jobs she discovers something which leads her to question if the place she works for has humanities best interests at heart like she thinks it does, and things progress from there. There's quite a few good jokes placed here and there, and i never found myself not wishing to see how things further developed.

CON'S:
This game is very lacking in music, other then the track that plays on the opening menu and during the credits i don't think there's any songs at all during normal "gameplay", only moments of background noise which doesn't really do much to set a mood or tone since there's no audible dialogue during anything and you can't even make your character walk.

At times the tones and "messages" this game is trying to send to the player can seem really heavy handed, especially considering the overall setting it takes place in.

The choice of words and slang used by some characters at times use seem really out of place given the setting and age in which they are set in, things which would usually be said in the modern day. (I can't imagine many people from the 1800s reffered to others as "toxic" for example.)

Also expanding on this the games world is weirdly progressive once again considering the year in which it is set in, which i can only guess is sometime during the late 1800's. There's several PoC characters and even a lesbian character (which is frequently hinted at being the love interest of the main character, because of course) all of which seem to be treated just fine by everyone else, or at least they are never shown to receive any discrimination. (Maybe people put racism/sexism/homophobia aside when the cannibals/otherwordly horrors/elder gods started showing up? If so it's never said in the game as far as i remember. Although i do think that would be something really interesting to dive into.)

I feel this graphic novel would be alot better if we were allowed to see more of the world instead of just hearing about it, and a bit more time was taken to expand on it. This could be given through brief flashbacks from the positions of other characters, maybe giving us a bit of insight of where they once came from. Showing instead of just telling would have worked much better.

The ending just kind of left me confused, it came out of nowhere and overall seemed kind of strange, that's all i'll say.

Worth the buy?: This is not a long game, it only took me a little over three hours to complete, i will say that. So i say if the concept idea alone interests you, give it a shot, but if not you probably won't regret not doing so. There's not much reason to play it more then a single time too.

From what i've seen there's plans to add a bonus "beach episode" later on, which may give a bit more insight into the setting. Also the creator of the game, jackcayless (as is their name on tumblr) plans to create another graphic novel with a more fantasy style (starring a big tiddied barmaid barbarian) so if their artwork or storywriting interests you maybe keep an eye out for that.

Probably one of the most embaressing games in my steam library. And before you ask YES it was a gift.
Lots of people have writing joke reviews but not alot of serious ones for this game, i hope to fix that.

PRO'S:

* The soundtrack, while limited to a few songs, is both charming and relaxing with certain tracks, and cheerful and enjoyable with others.
* Artstyle is nice, especially with the focus on 80's retro styling and somewhat vaporwave-esque look.
* Combat is simple but enjoyable. Shoot the badguy's, don't get shot, use power ups, shoot off the girls clothing. That's about it.

CON'S:
* While the soundtrack is good, it's kinda limited. There's only about 3 or so tracks in the levels total.
* The artstyle, while enjoyable, has a very heavy anime look for the girls, which can look kinda weird. (Where's their nose?!)
* The range in enemies is also limited. There's only only a handful of common enemies and about 3 bosses not including those specific to certain levels.
* ALL THE WAIFU'S ARE BORING AND BASIC AS ♥♥♥♥! Other then perhaps two of the girls all of them look incredibly normal, i know the dev's were going for anime trops and stereotypes but c'mon guys have some originality! Appeal to a wider audience! How about some monster girls? Chubby chicks? Some TRAPS?! Some girls with ACTUAL DARK skin tones? Make it DLC if you want i would certainly pay for it.

Worth the buy?:
While the game does have flaws, and also, it's incredibly short, only taking about 2 or so hours to complete, i'd still say for the very low price it's worth buying. If you're willing to accept the shame that will surely come from owning this game of course. If you want a simple shoot em' up and wanna see some lewd anime girls, (Despite the fact there's an entire internet out there for that) give this game a try.

The Bootleg rifle: Massive magazine, medium rate of fire , medium damage, low acurracy, medium stability, low concealment, medium threat.
This is basically a smaller lmg, which is great because you get to use iron sights and don't have to worry about movement speed as much, while still having the room clearing potential, the accuary is rather low to begin with but can be easily modded to increase to a reasonable amount. The Anarchist perk. Replace some of your health with armour, regain armor from killing enimies. This perk deck is great because it can essentially let you become a"mini tank", being able to have heaps of armor but still being really mobile. The Wing Butterfly knife. Pretty average melee, same stats as most other knives but has a awsome charge animation. Sydney. I love this character, i know people might find her high pitched voice annoying, but i like it. Maybe it's because i'm australian but i don't mind the accent. Easily my favorite female heister. Overall the sydney character pack is probably one of the better character packs out there would reccomend.

Forget Battlefield, forget all those shooter Minecraft clones, this game is THE KING of building and destruction. The absolute carnage of a capture the flag game is amazing, watching towers fall to the ground and piles a corpses dot the barren battlefield is almost whimsical. Please give this game a shot, it needs more players really bad, i would recommend getting it on sale though. Overall King Arthur's gold is a really fun chaotic 2d multiplayer builder, it's something you can just play on a bored weekend day or play for hours every day overall 8.5/10
