Absolutely excellent game. If most AAA games filled 85% of 50 buckets, this game fills 80% of 5000 buckets. Loads of content, but still some degree of inconsistency and bugs into Act 3. Keep up the good work, Larian!

great gameplay mechanics and world setting. Story didn't make a lot of sense, and characters weren't exactly likeable either.

What a f---ing beautiful game.
First of all, let me start with the drawbacks.
1. Graphics & graphical glitches.
Being a nearly 4-year old game, HZD's graphics can't really be compared to big releases today. However, they are still absolutely stunning on a potato PC like mine at Medium/High settings (1050Ti, 7th gen i5).
That said, there are definitely things to improve on, such as the climbing mechanics, rendering of close-up characters, and most annoying of all, the shader bugging out.
Every so often (~every 10 mins) I would get a period of time where the brightness of my game goes waaaaay up there, to the point that I couldn't see much of what was happening. I honestly think the devs know about this issue - the latter 1/4 of the game was free of this annoying bug.
2. The side-quests - this is the first big-title game I have played, cut me some slack.
The side-quests were all quite solid and gave reasonable rewards. That said, I sometimes found having to run around the open world irritating, especially for some of the search missions. However, I really enjoyed the little puzzles and character interactions.
3. Weapon balancing
I barely found any use for weapons that gave status effects during gameplay. Would've wished for status effect weapons to be better balanced, giving them a role during battle.

Now for the pros of this game - because trust me, there's a whole lot.
1 sentence - an unbelievably thrilling gameplay & well-thought out story with memorable, understandable characters.
First, gameplay.
I'd say the gameplay composed a bit less than half of what made the game memorable for me. While I've bashed on the combat mechanics previously, I still found the actual combat and challenges posed by the game engaging, entertaining, and /spicy/. A good 80% of the combat wasn't boring or generic - which says a lot for a decently lengthy game. Each machine had their own traits, and each weapon would interact with the enemy differently. If I had something to improve on, it would be working on the override mechanics - seeing the MC stick a staff into machine interfaces and grunt was interesting at first, but got quite repetitive as the game progressed. Other than this, I also felt the parkour/climbing mechanisms were slightly confusing & unintuitive.
Overall, I felt like much of the combat mechanics were enjoyable, but I feel like the devs could've put more effort into mid-game gameplay and combat.
Next, the story.
As mentioned previously, I didn't find myself being fully immersed in the side-quests and errands that non-main characters assigned. Nonetheless, the main story and quests of HZD never failed to entertain, surprise, and overwhelm me with its beautifully crafted characters and events. I thoroughly enjoyed the story - perhaps more than 95% of books and shows I have watched. While player communication choices didn't impact the overall gameplay, the conversations between characters remained engaging and fascinating. While many would categorize this game as sci-fi, I would say it is closer to fiction/fantasy -- going into the game with this in mind would definitely improve the overall experience of the player.
The MC, Aloy, was generally entertaining to play as and watch explore the vast world of HZD. Admittedly, I had become quite attached to the character near the end of the game, having experienced the journey she had taken me through.

Conclusion:
For my first big-title game, it has certainly left a lasting impression. I see myself replaying the game on a harder difficulty in the near future. I highly recommend this game to those who:
1. Want to experience a well-thought out, memorable story with a lot of options for exploration
2. Enjoy spending time to explore lore and character development/willing to get attached to characters
3. Have a decent understanding of sci-fi & won't think too much about the realism of the scenario
4. Expect exciting combat mechanics that mainly revolve around ranged attacks
5. Don't mind (still relatively common) visual bugs & slightly confusing travel/movement mechanics

My rating: 9.5/10, highly, highly recommend
