I am sure that if one plays this game for longer than the 40 minutes I put into it, then one may get a good feel for the anticipated trajectory of a ball, or the bounce of terrain. I am equally certain that I will not be the one who makes that discovery. In however many holes I played, I discovered that the design of each course, and the stories they tell, are beautiful; I also discovered that everything about the actual mechanic of hitting the ball was miserable for me. It did not help that the controller settings fully did not work (any time I turned it on, the game would lock up), but it is a simple enough game for a mouse. It was just a deeply unsatisfying ball-hitting sensation, which really did capture the cumbersome burden of trying to play golf in a full environment suit, but also captured the sense that there was no reason to do so. The chill vibes of the radio station are very much someone's thing, but coupled with a game I didn't want to be playing, I kept nodding off. 5 of my 40 minutes was spent fully napping mid-game. Finally, I discovered that my sole reward for completing a course under par was either 1 or 2 brief sentences.

I feel as though I will instead watch someone else play, on my phone, as I am falling asleep.

Solid little game. Played through in the span of a day, but I did enjoy the loop, and the conversations. Not enough to go back through and get the other 4 endings (at least not right now), but enough that I would recommend it to anyone who wanted a visual novel where you get to assess the honesty of various bearded folk and upgrade the power of Offering People a Drink.

I have just finished chapter 4 out of 8, and I think I might be tapping out, but I think the game is ultimately not to blame, it might just not be for me. One of my favorite games was Murdered: Soul Suspect, and I saw the gameplay loop of being an ego without a body as being somewhat similar to the loop of possessing people in order to complete tasks. However, while that game featured occasional out-of-body moments, this game runs on that as the sole feature, which might just not be for me.
Something about the level design and upgrades also bumped for me. Instead of being a fun adventure, where each upgrade provided new options or strategies, each change was so minute that it never mattered. Gaining the ability to train ego off of hostile bots from a distance seems like a game-changer, until you realize it drains juice at such a rate that you can use this once or twice at best before you are drained, at which point it will cost 3 times what you just absorbed in order to refill the juice meter enough to use it again. I did go through each level to get every worm and memory chip, and in the end, it did not make me appreciate level design more. This is not an instance where I got to the end of the level and realized that I could have used stealth to go through a fully different way, or explored a whole new area.
Anyway, I realize this reads like a bad review; someone put a lot of effort into this game, it has a lot of detail in the thoughts of the bots you are inhabiting, and the pads you find. The art design of the game is much better than I expected every time I saw the logo. I am marking it as a good review because I can think of people this game might be for, I am just not one of them.

I was so tempted to give this a positive rating. It was a great little game for the first two acts. Sadly, the third act introduces the harpoon mechanic, which is hot garbage, and also the entirety of the gameplay from that point on. It is so imprecise that there are constant misfires, leading to very repetitive gameplay that drags on. Especially towards the end, where each miss is death screen with the cat you just saved, followed by a reload. By the second cat chase, this went from a game I was looking forward to going back through to gather collectibles and see the best ending, to a game that I will be deleting and never thinking about again. Shame, really

The game is pretty good, but not great by any means. The art and music are beautiful, the story is interesting, and the levels are large, interesting, and full of fun platforming. As the game progresses, though, it relies more and more on the worst boss fights I've seen in a while.
I will add the caveat that I know many people love boss fights in games, but they are the worst part of all of video games to me. I see this fun world that I am platforming and fighting through, and then all of the sudden you are locked in a tiny room, with none of the scenery or music, and you have to just engage in these long boring fights (often several times) before you can get back to actually playing the game or experiencing the story. It's the worst. There should really be a feature in games where you can just turn that off.
For the first few levels these are pretty spaced out and balanced, some of them are even fun (there's a scorpion I rather like). Then I got to the floating city. Midway through the puzzle/keys section of the game, you have a fight. The second half of the puzzle is very quick, followed by another fight, followed by a long cut scene that forces you to go to a new area, which leads you to not just one, but TWO boss fights back to back, neither of which I enjoyed. Which leads to ANOTHER long cinematic that takes you to another place, and it seems like the game will finally restart. However in my case, what happened was the game crashed.
No worries, I thought, surely there was a save of some kind after all that nonsense.
Nope. When I reloaded, it was back before the really obnoxious double-boss.

So, anyway, I'm done with this game now. But I got several hours of enjoyment out of it, and enjoyed what the game could have been, and the story, and the jumping and bouncing off walls and whatnot. For those who really like all the boss fights, this would be dope. I just have too many other demands on my time, and too few gaming hours, to waste any more of them on the same loop.

On the whole, i suppose I recommend the game. The metroidvania puzzle/platform part, and the story and lore are pretty fun. The combat is the weakest aspect; it was never really the fun part, is was just a chore one had to do in order to move on to the next puzzle area. I leveled up all of the items simply to make it easier.
I am not a big fan of the end though. When the puzzles and the platforming are the whole point, the final long, dragged out, repetitive boss fight was an absolute bummer. Even with everything maxed out, it did not really provide an edge, and in the third phase it introduced a new mechanic that had not been present previously. There wasn't a way to skip it, so I decided I had come to the end of the fun part, uninstalled the game, and watched the ending online. Still, several hours of fun before that, so it was a positive experience.

I seldom do negative reviews. I am pretty good at judging what I will like before I even get to the purchase phase, so I seldom even find myself playing games I dislike; there are generally just varying degrees of enjoyment, and the occasional wild swing or poor judgement on my part.

This game, however, might be the first exception. I like the aesthetic of the game. I like the basic premise of the story. And, you know, some of my very favorite games are a little janky to play. But this was so thoroughly unpleasant that I cannot fathom playing it further. controller binding is awful; not only is it poorly mapped and not very responsive, but the game interprets 3 different buttons as being right-click, and interprets the shoulder buttons as a mousewheel, which means you cannot use them for a feature in which you might want to hold down the button. The combat is horrible and not at all enjoyable, which is tragic, because it is also unavoidable as there does not seem to be any manner of stealth, nor a way to quickly dispatch enemies you sneak up on. So, long combat with a useless pistol and an inaccurate pickax.

I'm not even going to include the usual "maybe check it out if you get a good enough sale" disclaimer; I paid a few bucks for the game, and I'm sorry to say, regret it deeply.

This is basically how I tested out my VR setups in a few iterations, and the thing I use as a tutorial for people new to VR. It is an excellent chance to explore and get a good feeling of moving around in a virtual space. Plus, you know, being Batman.

This game is fantastic. Gameplay that is basically Doctor Strange joined the Ghostbusters, presented as an anime. A lead character that is basically Tetsuo possessed by the ghost of a surly but competent Fox Mulder. The main story is high drama, with a bunch of hot topic goths yelling at each other and waving their hands around in a series of long and possibly too-frequent cutscenes. Once you are set free, you are released into a large and fascinating open world of Shibuya, which is beautiful and fascinating, full of history and folklore, actually haunting visitors and adorable animals, local foods and actual landmarks. I was more than happy to frequently abandon the story to explore every inch of the rest of the game. At this point I am halfway through the story, but I have collected every other possible thing to collect; as someone who usually hates that part of an Ubi game, it is notable that I never got sick of scouring alleyways and rooftops to find the shuriken that the weeb nekomata who collects replica swords really wanted. It's like someone designed a game based on pop culture madlibs, and the result is the very best kind of bonkers.

This is an interesting and unique game, and clearly a labor of love. It does, however, go on for a bit too long. While I am glad I played it, and recommend other people play it as well, I also cannot see myself playing it again for any additional endings.
