Aight. I get why this is fan favorite for many. The game is well polished. Unique steampunkish setting. It's hard to say something bad about this. If you don't like the style of the game then you won't probably like the other older/turn-based titles either. Just like the second and fourth game, this one had more of a unique story too and not the "warriors of light" thing going on. Again the music and the graphics top tier.

If I had to rank this game from the 1-6 titles. overall this is probably the best. Story-wise I liked the second game a lot but I think the fourth and this game are also close at the top.

I think this game is a good all-arounder. Like jack of all trades. The job system is similar to FF3 but improved and better in my opinion. At the beginning the game feels a bit easy but at the end at least for me it had it's challenging parts. The story isn't bad but it has the similar "warriors of light" thing going on. The music again is superb and the graphics look nice too :)

The first title in the series to come out on SNES. This is also the first game to introduce the "ATB" battle system. I'm not the biggest fan of it, because it forces you to select stuff (for example spells) faster when in battle. Though it's not game breaking and in this version I believe you can slow it down.
The story is much more character-driven and deeper, kind of like in FF2. The enemy encounters are not so tiresome just like in FF3 but the enemies and especially the boss fights can be challenging. The music is great and the graphics are more detailed (probably because the upgrade to SNES) but still the same style.
I do like that the character job/class is now fully tied to the character and to fit the story. The story/gameplay is also more linear but that's not a bad thing.
It seems that this game has a direct sequel/dlc called "After years". Don't worry the game doesn't end in a cliffhanger even though it has a sequel.

This game goes back a bit to the roots of the first game in the series. "the chosen" warriors of light to save the world. So the story is quite similar to the first game. This game introduces the job/class system. I have mixed feelings about it because the game almost forces you to use the exact job for different types of bosses/enemies. I think it's cool that you can build like a unique team comp from the fly and grind levels for each job, but sticking with only a few is difficult. For example, at one boss, you just have to realize that you need like 3-4 dragoons in your team. The same goes for the final boss. It's not easy unless you have leveled characters like +50 and you need at least 1 white mage/devout/sage with all the healing spells. (Or some cheese strat like having the blood lances on dragoons haha)

Out of the first two games, this one has some tough enemies where you need to think. If you don't know what you are doing, you will more than likely get wiped.

Anyway.. Overall, the game is good. The soundtrack is top tier (especially the victory fanfare :D). Oh, and the dungeons and the encounter system is much improved. Not like in FF2 where you take like a couple of steps and you will get into a battle.. The dungeons are just overall better in this.

More character-driven story than the first game, which is nice. Again, great music and an interesting leveling system. (Basically you can be a tank, mage, melee etc.. Everything at the same time for same character haha)

Not bad for a game that came out in 87.
Great remastered music. Story is nice, though I sometimes got lost not knowing where to go next haha.
