Much improved as far as I can tell, one of the only games with organic empire growth. System generally feel smooth, there are a variety of playstyles, overall quite an enjoyable experience. I particularly like spamming science and tech!

Truly the pinnacle of battle simulators, this game has epic combat and amazing design. Some of the base races are a little bland, but the game is truly one of the best I have ever played overall.

Absolutely fantastic space fighter with roguelike elements. I have only played with the DLC, and I have loved so much of this game. The combat is frantic and awesome, with plenty of asteroids to use as cover in surprisingly strategic ways. The writing is pretty good for the most part, and I am enjoying the story. The npcs are unique and reletively interesting. The best part for me is the dialogue details between the pilot and the AI, they knocked the AI's character out of the park. Some fantastic references to other great works of sci-fi throughout really add to the dialogue. Playing as the scout gives such a fantastic feeling of speed, I love it. I cannot say the value of the DLC because I got the game as a bundle, but the DLC features I have noticed in the game I have liked.
