Adorable gekos with tiny arms.
put all bonuses into minerals. my tiny armed people love rocks
we get enough rocks to turn our entire people into robots.
We become adorable robot gekos.
other robots wipe us out because were too chill.

11/10 game.

This game is awkward, because on one hand, i want to reccomend it, i really do. it has some of the bests fighting mortal kombat has ever seen, with a really good roster, the only downside on that front being a lack of mileena.

The story mode is a decent ammount of Kontent, and the multiplayer net code is freaking sweet.

the biggest problem everyone is having right now is the progression system to unlock all of the extras, and by extension the relative difficulty of the towers of time.

Currency progression for hearts is just straight up ****ed, taking 250 hearts to open up one of the chests, and you earn them at a rate of one per fatality. Koins are a lot easier to get, but most of the boxes give consumables for towers of time.

the towers of time are hillariously hard unless you have the right consumables, which makes kollecting all the things you want a massive hassle. That being said, some towers are not so bad, with two of the towers that randomly popped up for me so far having been super fun experiences.

If you can tolerate the blatant attempt to scam people out of their money, behind that is what could have easily been the best mortal kombat since 9. its a crying shame. i want to reccomend this, i really do, but at the same time I dont, because of the bad business practice.

im going to leave a reccomendation for now, under the hopes that they fix it.

EDIT:

they are working on updates to make towers of time less annoying, and have given everyone a thank you gift to help progression in the krypt while they rework the progression costs. add to that it has been made apparent the only currency that is there to buy is time krystals, which only are used for specific types of skins.

with these changes coming down the pipeline, the game is starting to tilt much more in favor of a "you should buy this" category. Once the progression chests are fully reworked on hearts, i will switch it to a no problems at all yes.

It was difficult for me to decide if I was going to click the yes or no button for reccomendation, simply because the game has a lot of flaws right now. And yet, despite all of these apparent flaws, i had the most fun in recent memory playing this game than anything else.

The issues with the game should be stated outright, those being bugs, performance, and to some a difficulty curve that is haphazard at best. *note that the last one I hardly noticed. There were only two difficulty spikes in my playthrough for me, those being when i first encountered a specific psionic enemy time that appears later in the game, and the final level.

The game is buggy as heck, and while a vast majority of bugs are graphical, and only serve to give rise to the occational head shake or chuckle, there are a few bugs that are frustrating. One bug has the map turn into a technicolor mess that could induce siezures, and another bug will cause a character to just die randomly. Thankfully the seccond bug only occured to me once, and was one of the few times I reloaded through my playthorugh. The game also has a lot of loading times, and performance issues like framerate are constantly put at the forefront.

NOW despite all of this, I am still reccomending the game, because the game itself is in my opinion better than previous installment by leaps and bounds. While most find the turn timer limiting, I personally liked it, as it forced me to go from an agonizing crawl to a frantic race against time where the slightest mistep is death, and while people here will complain that this leaves troops liable to getting murdered, I argue that the game gives you all the tools you need to keep tabs on the enemy. Concealment is your number one weapon against the missions with the clock, and you have it for all of them, and the options given to you when you have complete control over how you engage the enemy is amazing. It opens up even further once you unlock the upgrades in the ranger path that keep your ranger in concealment if the group breaks it, meaning you can use them as a forward scout.

As for the missions without turn timers, it basically is exactly what you would expect from Xcom 2.

Since i wasnt particularly a fan of the air game from the last game, because it essentially devolved to "do you have the required specs? if yes you get a mission, if no you get a sattelite destroyed," the lack of one here was actually not a big deal for me.

All in all, I personally enjoy this game, and if you can look past some bugs and stuff, i am sure you can too.

now let me preface my review by saying i freaking love this game. And yet, the game itself has some problems with it such that i can not reccomend this game to anyone other than fans of the modern survival horror genre, and are willing to put up with a LOT of cheap deaths.

of my 113 deaths in my first playthrough, i can guarentee that at least 80 of them were from failing to disarm explosives, since their was a wierd button lag on my game.

either way, if your a fan of the modern 3rd person survival horror genre, pick this up when its on sale. If not, i would reccomend you spend your money on something different.

pro's:
: great atmosphere and soundtrack. if your not scared, you will feel tense
: cool boss battles
: some chapters are expetional.
: the agony crossbow is freaking awsome
: a lot of different things to upgrade
: when you have an excess of resources, how you choose to deal with basic enemies can turn into a diabolical experience of torment.
: a lot of enemy types are really cool and fun to deal with. I wish the invisible enemies lasted longer than 2 chapters

cons:
: not scary, but thats most modern survival horror games
: mikami rips himself off at various points, and i think its hillarious
: final boss is a HUGE letdown
: lots of cheap deaths, unlike games such as resident evil 4 or dead space.
: controls seem to have a delay to them.
: there are some chapters that turn into a frustrating slog. (chapters, 9, 15, 6 are a few off the top of my head.)
