Seems like SLZ is doubling down on keeping the movement in the game the way it is. If you haven't played Boneworks, it's not too terrible. But having played Boneworks, the movement in Bonelab is janky and downright frustrating most of the time.

SLZ, PLEASE add an option for an only standing mode. It hurts literally nobody to add an option for it and it would make Boneworks players so happy.

Something else extremely important to say. It has been over a month since the modding SDK for the game has been updated. If you're getting this game for the modding aspect of it, it still needs a lot more time in the oven.

The good
-Pretty good soundtrack in the first level kind of falls off for me in the second level but it isn't bad
-Guns feel pretty good and I have few problems with them
-Time to kill of enemies just feels right
-Performance is great even on highest settings

The bad
-When you use the grappling hook on smaller enemies, it just kills them instead of bringing you to them which limits the movement tech of this game quite a bit. I suggest making it so the grappling hook doesn't do enough damage to kill small enemies or perhaps even making it do no damage at all.
-Can't quite understand anything at all about the story (which is fine because I bought the game to shoot bad guys but just in case you are into story in games I don't really see any of it here)
-A lot of the animations look pretty low quality (mostly the enemies)
-The UI is clunky (when you pause you can still shoot and switch weapons with the scroll wheel. Which also makes it so you can't bind the scroll wheel to a weapon which is a pretty big bummer because I have mouse wheel up bound to the super shotgun in other shooters I play
-Some of the sound design and voice acting is pretty good, but a lot of it either feels poorly mixed or just doesn't fit. An example of a sound effect that I think doesn't fit is the player jump sound which gets pretty grating and annoying after bunny hopping around for 30 minutes
-I feel like the art for this game is trying to encapsulate Ultrakill's low poly kind of art style, but some enemies have too much detail for it to work very well.

Overall in the game's current state, I can't quite give it a positive review. If the game had more content I feel like it would be worth the 5 bucks. Either an endless mode or a campaign expansion would be great future additions. Right now I recommend trying to polish out some of the animations and upgrading the game's art and models. It just looks kinda cheap right now.
With all of this being said, I'm not going to refund the game in the hopes that the developers go on to fix up the game, polish it out, and add some more fun content. Good luck guys!

Early Access Review
Currently too laggy to play, impossible to block people who have a bad connection as their swords go right through yours. Controls (on Valve Index) are awful at the time of writing this review, even after setting the grip option to hold instead of toggle, I still dropped my swords despite having a death grip on the controllers at all times. I might buy this game in a while if it gets some good updates.

Cool, a Half-Life game that has less cool features than Half-Life: 2 does, that somehow feels less like a Half-Life game than Boneworks did, that single-handedly made me lose faith in Valve's ability to tell a story SPOILER: They messed the Half-Life story with time travel and alternate dimensions, that doesn't even have any melee combat or physical interaction with enemies. Whatever, I'm going back to Boneworks, hope the next one is better, or at least has multiplayer. Something to make it worth playing.

Edit (11 months later): Yup, I've had no reason to come back to this game after my first play-through. Other games like Boneworks, H3VR, and The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners have filled the VR FPS gap better than this game ever will.

Great story, great physics, great game. I give it a solid 9.5 out of 10. Very re-playable.

Edit: 1 year later

This game still holds up to this day and is still the most innovative VR game that's out right now. A great pick for people who want to experience something truly spectacular!

Early Access Review
This is by far the most supported and well loved game I own. I chose to buy this VR game before anything else right when I got my headset and it hasn't let me down. Well worth the 20 dollars.
